YouTube Discontinues Comments Section on Videos Featuring Minors

YouTube Discontinues Comments Section on Videos Featuring Minors
The Silicon Review
02 March, 2019

YouTube will disable the comment section from the videos which will feature kids. The announcement was made public on Thursday. The move by the world’s most popular video platform came after it reporteda few cases. The cases involved some pedophiles where they posted inappropriate remarks on child videos.

Apart from the incident, the video streaming site also moderated content across its platform because of violence; hate speech and conspiracy continue to plague the site.

The company stated that it will take some months to deactivate the comment section on all videos featuring minors. The process already started last week, when YouTube deactivated the comments sections from around tens of millions of videos.

There were many companies like Epic Games, AT&T,and Nestle which removed ads from the platform after the above-cited incident. But, only Nestle retained its ads since they were satisfied with a strong response from YouTube against the incident.

Only a few channels featuring kids will be allowed to keep their comments sections on. The channels must be popular in the platform and must actively keep an eye on the comments section beyond the standard monitoring equipment that YouTube provides.

Paul Verna, an e-marketer analyst stated that disabling the comment section on such a large number of videos seems an extreme reaction.

YouTube also announced that it has also updated its automated moderating system which expects to recognize and remove inappropriate comments fast.

The new stringent move by YouTube shall safeguard child abuse and other inappropriate activities in the platform.
