Intel launches second-gen of Xeon scalable processors and Xeon Platinum 9200 processor
The Silicon Review
03 April, 2019

Intel has rolled out its second-gen Xeon scalable processors and the Xeon Platinum 9200 processor, the Economic Times reported on Tuesday. The new processors were launched on the occasion of the company’s "Data-Centric Innovation Day".

Coming to the Xeon Scalable processors, these processors are equipped with built-in Deep Learning Boost (DLB) technology along with AI capabilities for the futuristic data-driven IoT edge platforms. The DLB technology speeds up the overall performance of the processor up to 14 times for carrying out deep learning workloads such as image classification, object detection, and speech recognition.

On the other hand, the Xeon Scalable Platinum 9200 processor is equipped with 12 memory channels. The processor is created tocarry out tasks on AI, high-performance computing (HPC), high-density infrastructures, and advanced analytics. The processor aims to deliver breakthrough levels of performance to users.

With the company’s speed select technology, IaaS providers and enterprises can address their evolving workload needs with more flexibility. Xeon Scalable processors can create "three CPUs in one" because they can be configured in accordance with frequencies and performance settings of core counts.

Other than the new rollouts, Intel’s series of Xeon Processors include the Intel Xeon Platinum Processor (8200 Series). The processor is powered by built-in AI and is equipped with 28 cores and 2, 4 and 8+ socket configurations and top memory bandwidth. The security for the processor is very advanced.
