LG Unveils Its New AI Chip for Domestic Appliances
The Silicon Review
20 May, 2019

LG has unveiled about its new AI-based chip for home appliances, Economic Times reported. In recent times, the South Korean company has been focusing on the development of next-gen technologies.

The company stated that the new AI chips are built on its own neural engine. The chip has the ability to power washing machines, robot vacuum cleaners, refrigerators, AC, and next-gen smart devices. Due to on-device processing, the chips can be used without the need of internet. The chip stores personal data through separate hardware–implemented security zone.

Through visual intelligence technology, the AI chip can distinguish and identify locations, space, users, and objects more effectively. The chip’s voice intelligent technology can identify different voices accurately and noise characteristics. Coming to the chip’s product intelligent technology, it enhances the device's capabilities by sensing the chemical and physical changes in the environment.

LG isn’t the only company to focus on AI development, as there are other competitors such as Apple, Amazon, and Facebook which work on AI and ML chips for different purposes. LG’s new AI solution is specifically made for smarter home devices.

The company’s annual profit in 2018 was $2.4 billion despite ups and downs faced in the mobile division. The home appliances department recorded its highest quarter of profit and sales to date. Overall, the results for the home entertainment and home appliance units were good- two major areas of focus for AI.
