Qualcomm and Lenovo announces the World’s first 5G Laptop
The Silicon Review
29 May, 2019

Qualcomm and Lenovo have unveiled the world’s first 5G laptop at an event called Computex in Taiwan. Both the companies have joined hands for the development despite an on-going tussle between the US and China. The new laptop will be fuelled by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8cx platform.

The code name for the new 5G laptop is "Project Limitless". The laptop would be the world’s first 7nm platform developed specifically for Pcs that provides 5G connectivity. Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8cx Compute Platform supports both 4g and 5G connectivity. As per Qualcomm, the battery can last for several days after a single charging.

Snapdragon 8cx platform will use the Snapdragon X55 5G modem. The downloading speed of the modem can boost up to 2.5 Gbps.

The release date and the pricing for the laptop were not revealed at the event, according to reports by Tech Crunch.

Countries such as China, Japan, South Korea, The US, and Australia are the current leaders in the 5G deployment process.  China is expected to have 40 percent of the global 5G connectivity by 2025 and India hasn’t started trails for 5G of use cases yet, but it is targeting to launch 5G by next year.

On May 15, the US government effectively prohibited Huawei, the Chinese tech giant to sell products in the country. The government also imposed restrictions on business with the Chinese company.

The new laptop is a major boost for laptop users across the world.
