siliconreview Reports: Samsung’s Budget Smartphones to be equipped with Cryptocurrency and Blockchain Features

Samsung’s new budget smartphones will be packed with blockchain and cryptocurrency features, Business Korea reported on Tuesday. The reports suggest that the South Korean phone maker will add the same features to its new version of Galaxy smartphones which were added in the previously announced Samsung S10 model.

Business Korea is anEnglish local media in South Korea.

The company also intends to hold talks with Telcos to discuss about local currencies and blockchain-based mobile identification cards. People familiar with the matter said that Samsung will lower barriers to new experiences by steadily expanding the number of Galaxy smartphones equipped with blockchain features. The company will also expand its servicesand target Canada and the US.

The new Galaxy S10 model by Samsung will apparently be equipped with wallet functions for ether, bitcoin, and other supported tokens such as Cosmo coin and Enjin coin, reported Cointelegraph in February this year. Apart from the news, an unknown source reportedly told a crypto industry news outlet that Samsung may develop a public blockchain based on its own token.

Earlier this week, HTC also unveiled a budget-friendly blockchain smartphone. The smartphone is scheduled to be launched in the third quarter of this year. Features such as BTC node and in-wallet ERC-20 token swaps will be packed in the smartphone.
