Golden emerges as an encyclopedia for startups and emerging technologies
The Silicon Review
01 May, 2019

Wikipedia is an excellent repository of knowledge. One can expect to find information on just about anything, from astrophysics, quantum mechanics, economics, history, sociology, to biographies, company details, and even movie plots. It’s free to use and open to all. However, when it comes to newly launched companies or technologies, there is very little or no information available. Moreover, even basic details such as the names of the founding members and the industry catered to can be hard to find. Golden, an encyclopedia of startups wants to offer what Wikipedia doesn’t.

Founded by Jude Gomila, Golden provides all the information that Wikipedia cannot. While most of the companies featured on Wikipedia are well established and have a sizeable reputation, startups are a different story altogether. Gomila claims that Wikipedia’s shortcoming is due to its requirement of specific levels of noteworthiness. In other words, if a page is not notable enough, Wikipedia deletes the page. This is probably the primary reason why startups, given their nature, do not stay on the online encyclopedia.

Gomila’s Golden would also enable users to embed multimedia content as well as scientific papers onto their pages. Other features include ease of editing, whereby users need not know scripting languages. Additionally, authors and editors would need to edit pages using their real identity, a move that would increase transparency and inhibit the potential spread of misinformation.

Golden has already raised a cool $5 million from venture capitalists like Gigafund, Founders Fund, SV Angel, Andreessen Horowitz, among others.
