Instagram Introduces AI-based Tool to Prevent Cyber Bullying

Instagram has rolled out a new feature to prevent cyber bullying. The move comes at a time when the social media platform and its parent company, Facebook, are trying to undo criticism with reference to such harassment.

The company said on Monday that the new feature will be based on Artificial Intelligence (AI). It will track harassment on the platform; even before the incident surfaces.

Instagram has been deploying AI to keep an eye on incidents that involve cybercrime, and then remove them. But, the new AI intervention will prevent any kind of potential abusive comments even before it is posted.

One of the top level executives of Instagram said- “From early tests of the feature, we have found that it encourages some people to undo their comment and share something less hurtful once they have had a chance to reflect.”

The restrict feature will prevent the bullies to get recognition from their targets; making the abusive comments from flagged users invisible to the targets and hiding the target’s current status from the offender.

The people who are restricted by the targets will not able to see their active status.

Facebook, also recently committed to quell online bullying by allowing users to gain more control over their comments and feeds.

The new development by Instagram is a great move towards users’ safety.
