Amazon has bolstered its expansion plan by opening its largest-ever global campus in Hyderabad, India, it confirmed on Wednesday.

The campus is built in an area of over 9.5 acres with a built area covering three million square feet. It can accommodate 15,000 people as its office space is 1.8 million sq ft. The Washington-based e-commerce giant has eight office spaces in the City of Pearls.

AmitAgarwal, Amazon India’s head stated that the new campus has room both for consolidating and growing operations. The new facility will give plenty of room for the company to grow. Already 4,000 people from other locations have shifted to the new campus.

In light of the type of work that would be carried out in the new campus, Mr. Agarwal shared few things. He said that the company employs 60,000 people across the country; which serves global market places including India among that one-third of the employees are housed in Hyderabad.

The new facility is the largest ever employee and technology base outside Washington. It will have machine learning scientists, software development engineers, finance, product managers, and many other experts from different backgrounds.

Mr. Agarwal shared his thoughts on economic slowdown and its effects on Amazon’s business plan“We haven’t seen any slowdown yet. One reason is e-commerce is a very small portion of retail consumption in India, probably less than 3%. When it is that small, there is so much room to grow.”
