Oracle appeals against the nature of the $10 billion JEDI contract awarded by the Pentagon

The massive $10 billion to develop a cloud enterprise infrastructure for the United States Department of Defense (DoD) had numerous tech giants racing to claim the winning bid. Dubbed the Joint Enterprise Defense Infrastructure (JEDI), the enormous single-award contract is an effort by the Pentagon to acquire a single, comprehensive cloud enterprise.

While Amazon has been the front runner in the race with Microsoft tailing behind, Oracle has left no stone unturned in its efforts to get the bid. Ever since the news about the contract broke out, Oracle has been moving from pillar to post in order to get a judge to declare the single award nature of the contract illegal. However, in spite of attempts through every government and legal channel, Oracle has failed every single time. The repeated appeals and court cases have delayed the process of awarding the contract to a winner. The enterprise software giant has now filed a new appeal against a federal court’s decision last month which found the contract was well within legal guidelines.

Oracle had even sued the government late last year for a perceived conflict of interest involving an Amazon employee who worked for the DoD and then rejoined Amazon. The matter arose since Amazon is a clear frontrunner in the race for the lucrative $10 billion contract. Oracle has raised issues on various occasions, trying its best to grab the contract.
