This week marked the fifteenth birthday of the world’s first navigation app- Google Maps. In order to commemorate the popularly used app, several new changes had been made in order to better it and give it a new face. “Explore,” “Commute,” “Saved,” “Contribute” and “Updates” features were further explained at a media presentation that took place earlier this week. The logo will receive a makeover where the previous map icon will be replaced by a two dimensional pin symbol. While this is the first change that will be implemented, there will be various other updates too.
“In publicly celebrating its 15th birthday, Google will host a NYC Google Maps Experience from Friday, Feb. 7 through Sunday, Feb. 9, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., in the Flatiron Plaza beside Madison Square Park. The general public can interact with a physical representation of the new Google Maps icon, which in structure releases a sealed envelope with the press of a button. To help future riders, users can answer a short survey within Google Maps about their experience on recent trips,” according to a report by Forbes.
Some of the massive changes to take place are: introduction of a woman’s section for security purposes, information of surveillance cameras and security guard postings, transport etc.
