Netflix has become a household name. All you need is an ISP, preferably one that provides a high speed fibre optic connection to the internet with a low latency. The quicker your internet, the better the visual quality. Virtually every family has an account but not all Netflix libraries are equal. If you’re living in Australia, you won’t have the same access that America has, etcetera. According to social media and the internet, everyone wants to have the same access that America has. But does America really have the best library that Netflix has to offer?

The biggest collection goes to America

With over 5,000 titles, the Netflix library with the most movies and tv shows combined is America. They have the biggest variety, but does that mean they have the best? According to PCMag, apparently not. America’s Netflix library has an average IMDB rating of 6.95.

What country has the highest rated shows on Netflix?

Azerbaijan, Portugal, Georgia, Ukraine, and Russia are all tied for the top spot, at 7.13 stars out of 10. However, if you’re talking about the country which has the most titles on Netflix that has won an award that would go to South Korea. They have a staggering 109 Oscar-winning films and 35 Emmy-winning shows.

Shows that are not on American Netflix

Aside from the fact that America doesn’t have the best movies or shows, they don’t even have any of the more popular ones. For instance, FRIENDS is only available in Canada, Mexico, South America, Europe, and South-east Asia. Other widely popular shows which are not available on American Netflix but are available in other countries are: Family Guy, Doctor Who, Forrest Gump, Godfather, How I Met Your Mother, The Big Bang Theory, Prison Break, Lost, and more.

How do Americans access other Netflix libraries?

There is no official method whereby you can gain access to another country’s library unless you go to said country. However, thanks to the power of the internet and technology, you can access it with a secure VPN. By changing your country of origin, you can trick the platform into allowing you access to content which is exclusive to another country. That’s how you can watch Star Trek: Discovery, Hannibal, Blackadder and all the joys of Netflix which has eluded America.

Is it legal to use a VPN to bypass Netflix’s restrictions?

According to their website, “You may view Netflix content primarily within the country in which you have established your account and only in geographic locations where we offer our service and have licensed such content. The content that may be available to watch will vary by geographic location and will change from time to time.”

This means that it is completely legal because you are in no way pirating or ripping off the platform. It is content that you would have access to if you were in other countries. However, it does go against their terms of service and Netflix would be within their rights to terminate your account. So far, it is something that they have not enforced. The streaming service has in place some VPN deterrents and sometimes you might receive an error asking you to turn off your VPN before trying again. That is about the lengths that they have gone to prevent such things from happening.
