TikTok’s native app beca...TikTok has launched a player, redesigned ‘from the ground up’ for Apple’s new headset
The short-form video platform TikTok has unveiled its native app for Apple's Vision Pro headset, offering users a familiar interface adapted to the device's features. The app maintains TikTok's signature vertically oriented video player with interactive buttons for liking, commenting, favoriting, and sharing videos. To capitalize on the headset's expanded screen real estate, additional interface elements such as comments and creator profiles are displayed on a separate pane to prevent obstruction of the main video player. The launch of TikTok's Vision Pro app was hinted at last month by by-product lead Ahmad Zahran, who mentioned a comprehensive redesign of the TikTok experience tailored for the headset. Users of Vision Pro can enjoy TikTok videos while still being aware of their real-world surroundings or immerse themselves fully in virtual environments like the surface of the Moon.
Furthermore, the app is compatible with other applications on the headset, enhancing its versatility. While some major video streaming services, such as Disney, have embraced Apple's new hardware by offering features like streaming 3D movies via Disney Plus, others, like Netflix and YouTube, have shown reluctance. Both Netflix and YouTube have refrained from enabling compatibility mode for their iPad apps on the Vision Pro, directing users instead to access their services through the Safari browser. However, YouTube, in its efforts to rival TikTok with YouTube Shorts, has confirmed plans to develop a dedicated app for the Vision Pro in the future.
