A group of scientists has successfully trained and programmed a new artificial intelligence (AI) algorithm that will be used in the detection of cognitive decline that might lead to Alzheimer’s disease. Now to make accurate predictions scientists use a very complicated method that will not only give precise answers but will also help in the long run. The operation’s leading head is Dr. Mallar Chakravarty who is a computer neuroscientist at the Douglas Mental Health University. He is currently backed by his team at The University of Toronto And Centre For Addiction And Mental Health.
The algorithm is designed to identify and learn the signatures that come from the magnetic resonance imaging(MRI). Also by using the genetics and clinical data, the accurate result is derived. By using this algorithm it is easy to predict if an individual’s cognitive faculties are likely to deteriorate towards Alzheimer’s disease in the next five years. So, this means it can tell if a patient might get the disease in the next five coming years.
"At the moment, there are limited ways to treat Alzheimer's and the best evidence we have is for prevention. Our AI methodology could have significant implications as a 'doctor's assistant' that would help stream people onto the right pathway for treatment. For example, one could even initiate lifestyle changes that may delay the beginning stages of Alzheimer's or even prevent it altogether," says Chakravarty, let’s see how this might help all its patients.
