Netflix is getting into the radio to expand its viewership and is coming up with its first ever audio-only broadcast. It is going to be a full-time comedy channel airing exclusively on SiriusXM Satellite Radio, a radio broadcasting company. The channel will be called “Netflix Is A Joke” which will broadcast bits from Netflix’s series of comedy specials including performers like Ellen DeGeneres,Dave Chappelle,Chris Rock,Jerry Seinfeld,Adam Sandler, Ricky Gervais, Sarah Silverman, Sebastian Maniscalco, and other eminent personalities. The idea is to make more people aware of the streaming service’s comedy specials and compete with channels like Comedy Central.
“Netflix Is A Joke Radio on SiriusXM will be an audio extension of our award-winning stand-up comedy on Netflix,” said Ted Sarandos, Netflix Chief Content Officer. “We are excited to feature some of the greatest and funniest performers in the world with highlights from Netflix shows as well as original programming that further celebrates the art of comedy, and we are excited to do this in collaboration with SiriusXM.”
The new station offered on SiriusXM is going to be launched on April 15th as Channel 93. It can also be accessed on various streaming set-top boxes and other media. Netflix also plans to launch an exclusive interview featuring celebrities and comedians talking about pop culture and trending subjects.
The partnership with SiriusXM is a huge achievement for Netflix as it has never partnered with any other subscription-based media company before this.
