An Interview with Antonella Rubicco, A3Cube Inc Founder and CEO: ‘We’re Committed to Turn Your Time, Data and Infrastructure into Value’

To be a competitive global IT platform, we need a supercomputer like architecture. They have the lowest latency on the market; they are a real composable computing platform that scales from a single node up to 1000s without any headache, more importantly, the applications on these supercomputers run unmodified (there’s no need to rewrite them).

The company is focused on developing holistic solutions for high-performance data-driven applications such as data mining, machine learning, and artificial intelligence.

A3cube is among the first companies that, years ago, understood the key role of data in transforming every aspect of modern society. A3Cube has redesigned from the ground up the distributed data access, proposing a new architectural approach aimed at achieving maximum system performance and efficiency. While others speak about Software Defined Infrastructures, A3Cube realizes Software Defined Hardware-accelerated Platforms where the flexibility of the Software approach is boosted in a transparent way by the fastest hardware technologies on the market. The company was incorporated in 2012 and is headquartered in San Jose, California.

Antonella Rubicco, A3Cube Inc Founder/CEO, spoke exclusively to The Silicon Review. Below is an excerpt.

Q. Why was the company set up?

A3cube was established on the concept of ‘stabilization of market needs’. The company had the capability to anticipate these needs owing to its versatile leadership. Later, using its experience in High-Performance Computing (HPC) world, A3cube was able to enlarge its product portfolio to satisfy customers’ needs.

We are always a step ahead of the competition thanks to the vision of our CTO and Co-founder Emilio Billi and our great team of engineers, programmers, and mathematicians who he has been coordinating with from the outset.

Today, we’re glad to announce that A3Cube pioneers the transformation from HPC into High-Performance Data Analytics (HPDA), with the scope to create and build solutions that help people to change the world.

Q. How successful was your first project roll on? Share the experience.

The first project was a PoC with a national lab. They asked to test nine nodes system. We had two nodes ready, so we proposed to start with the smaller and move to the bigger as a second step. They agreed.

After one week, we informed that nine nodes system was ready, but they said that the PoC was so successful and powerful that they were ready to send the PO for 48 nodes system.

It was an important moment for the company; we demonstrated that the technology worked as we expected and we were on the market.

Q. “Earning trust and respect of consumers is through consistent focus on delivering high quality in all of our actions.” How do you interpret this statement?

This statement is true and fundamental to build a brand and the reputation of a company. As I mentioned earlier, we’re a customer-centrist company. From providing high-quality products/services, out-of-the-box customer service, excellent pre and post-sales support to answering every question asked, we stay at the forefront of technology and product development.

Q. Fostering a culture of feedback is crucial to the success of every organization. How is this true with your company?

Part of the success of A3Cube arrives from the culture of feedback. The company was founded in 2012, as mentioned above, and went out of stealth mode in 2014. The two founders, including myself, from the beginning, were focused on collecting and receiving feedback from every person that was in contact with the company such as VCs, financial persons, potential customers/users, employees etc. The goal of this attitude was to move from an ideal company to a real one.

Q. How do you stay relevant to the consumer interests and needs in this highly volatile market?

In our field, the problems and issues that the customer has with big data and related applications included ML and AI, are not volatile, they can evolve. We were and are always focused on building and providing the best appliances and supercomputer for big data, ML, and AI. We offer a complete product line based on cutting edge technology, and we are working on the next generation of the solutions. It’s relevant to be recognized as the company that follows the evolution of the market and can support the customers in their needs and growth.

Q. How do you keep your company up and running? What are the factors that help your company to compete on a global platform?

The vision and consistency and our CTO Emilio Billi are the essential factors that permit the company to compete on a global platform. Thanks to his knowledge, Emilio is able to anticipate the market and its needs, and he drives the team and the company in the right direction, as mentioned above. Emilio started to talk about the big data problem and the necessity to use a supercomputer like architecture to address this issue since 2012. He presented the solution for AI to Tier 1 companies, anticipating what is happening now. We went ahead with our vision and now we confirm that it’s the right one; we will be leading this data era.

Q. Do you have any new products ready to be launched?

As of now, we have three products families available on the market that we are selling:

DB Turbo IO, specifically designed to accelerate database. It starts from a single node and scale to 1000;

KIRA, for crunch data a supercomputer easy to use and manage;

GRIFO is a composable infrastructure for AI. It’s able to aggregate up to 128 GPUs in a single system overcoming the limitation of today’s proposal of the market.

We are working on new products to enlarge our proposal for Enterprise AI, Business Intelligence, and Cyber Security (following Customer’s feedback). We will launch the new solutions in Q3.

Q. Where do you see your company a couple of years from now?

Two years from now, A3Cube will be the leader of this new data era; we are working to maintain and enforce our vision and leadership positions. We’re headed in the right direction.
