“Due to international security and data privacy regulations (e.g., EU-GDPR, CCPA, and ePrivacy) being a worldwide concern, Natuvion has grown internationally. In addition, the requirement for companies to switch to SAP S/4 HANA® by 2025 is another factor driving change. These changes require a new breed of blended transformation project, requiring IT to be paired with legal—and Natuvion is leading the way!

The EU-GDPR and California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) regulation present a major challenge to companies across all industries. In addition, beginning in 2025, SAP says it will no longer support the ECC 6 version of its Business Suite software. Though a data protection compliance project or a system transition to SAP S/4HANA may sound daunting, they are important projects to plan in 2019.

As a unique SAP S/4 HANA transformation and innovation partner, specializing in the brand-new Hybrid Transformation Approach, Natuvion’s experts can provide a more predictable transformation outcome through a new type of “phase 0” project that brings:

  • Tailored scope, providing flexibility to adapt data and processes in one step.
  • Lower risk of errors, thus reducing go-live downtime.
  • A compliant move with full audit trails and legal business process support.
  • Education on the transformation processes, cost of transformation, and knowledge of the future technical architecture.

Natuvion is an SAP gold partner and SAP co-innovation partner consulting company that focuses on strategic IT security, data protection, and privacy management. It also focuses on data transformations, including data migration, cleansing, and anonymization. For the last three years, the company has focused on implementing EU-GDPR and CCPA compliance with SAP systems and has run over 100 EU-GDPR workshops in cooperation with SAP across multiple cities. Natuvion also works hand-in-hand with legal firms that specialize in data privacy around the world to consult and build IT solutions and roadmaps for customers. The result: each step is in compliance with local regulations like the EU-GDPR, CCPA, and Brazilian Data Protection Law.

Patric Dahse, Natuvion America’s Co-CEO, spoke exclusively to The Silicon Review and shared his insights.

Q. Why was the company set up? And what do you propose to bring into the market?

The need for security and transformation consulting in the mass-customer industry (e.g., Utilities, Consumer, Retail, or Banking) was a market opportunity for Natuvion’s unique skills. We developed the first set of tools to help customers searching for a solution to their entire General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) compliance programs. However, the demand for security solutions are critical for a safe transition when large companies need to transform from their old ERP system to the new SAP S/4HANA landscape, while meeting compliance regulations. With the company’s fast and agile development in solving their customer’s problems over the past five years, Natuvion has specialized in solutions for Data Privacy & Security, Hybrid-Transformation, Analytics, and SAP Cloud Platform Development services and apps.

Q. What is your company’s position in the market?

Natuvion is currently the only company that offers consulting services, including hand in hand legal, organizational, and technical guidance. It also offers solutions to complete a compliance project, during an SAP S/4HANA transition. Due to their project involvement, our lawyers are able to cross the chasm between legal and IT, so that each special requirement from the customer is compliant to law while being implemented by IT.

Natuvion is also the founder of the only Data Protection & Privacy (DPP) Competence Centre Berlin (CCB), where people can ask global legal, technical questions, or business process questions and get implementation support on a plethora of compliance questions. The Competence Centre also provides predefined templates and blueprints for data protection and privacy compliance projects.

Q. Briefly explain your products and services.

Natuvion’s Competence Centre provides support for the services and tools developed for compliance programs. It’s our customer knowledge base that encompasses data privacy law, especially in areas such as Consent and SAP Information Lifecycle Management (ILM), including archiving, blocking, and deletion. In the Competence Centre, Natuvion has a team of over 100 certified technical consultants in information privacy and data transformations, as well as data privacy lawyers and program managers that have over 20 years of combined experience in SAP environments.

With the development of Natuvion’s data privacy tools, the company has a leading role in being one of SAP’s leading partners in Landscape Transformation. As recognized transformation experts, Natuvion helps with data merge, cleanse, decommissioning, integration, anonymization, and pseudonymization, as well as provides support with transformations to SAP S/4 HANA.

Q. How often do you innovate? Is it only when there is a need in the market?

Natuvion has an innovation-driving culture and co-innovates on white spaces as a partner of SAP. Not only are we pushing our products further because there is a demand for a new law or regulation, but we also innovate because of the mandatory requirements companies face. With our close partnership with legal firms in multiple countries, we know exactly when a law changes and what impact it will have on a company. Natuvion addresses that requirement and one new example is our Data Subject Request (DSR) app.

Q. Tell us more about DSR App.

To couple our legal and IT expertise, Natuvion developed the DSR app. It’s designed to make the process of data subject requests efficient to meet data privacy law requirements within an SAP and non-SAP (e.g., salesforce) environment. The DSR app provides a legally reviewed best-practice process for managing data subject requests to ensure that requests are addressed promptly and accurately. The app not only helps achieve data privacy compliance but turn data protection and data privacy into a business advantage. This app is key for the EU-GDPR and CCPA.

The DSR app was built on SAP Cloud Platform, as an SAP co-innovation partner, and will be sold in the SAP App Center. The app was designed to eliminate complicated internal processes when answering a data subject request and addresses the Right to request information, the Right to request deletion of data, and the Right to portability (if feasible). The biggest advantage the DSR app has is that, by using SAP technology, the DSR app can access and retrieve relevant data in the connected systems that is associated with data subject requests.

Through innovative technology, the app is flexible enough to connect to and search backend systems (SAP and non-SAP). Natuvion’s DSR app is driven by workflow and helps Data Protection Officers to respond more quickly and efficiently to the daily requests received.

By automating the processes, the DSR app accelerates and standardizes the steps that Data Protection Officers used to complete manually by having a workflow auto-assigning tasks to the appropriate team members. The app also maintains a complete record of all actions taken and communications to demonstrate compliance to regulators.

Q. What kind of responses have you received from your consumers over the years? How have they motivated you to shape your offerings and grow the company?

Our customers come to us with concerns about their system data privacy and data security. For example, customers using SAP applications must make the transition to SAP S/4 HANA by 2025. This date is coming faster than people think. With both legal and SAP restructuring requirements having a set deadlines, they both serve as a priority. That’s why we developed a systematic approach to transform an existing ERP system to SAP S/4 HANA, while at the same time ensuring regulatory requirements are met.

Q. “It is difficult to start a venture, but far more difficult to maintain it.” How would you interpret this saying?

We interpret this as “it’s all about the customer!”. While innovation with compliance is difficult, it is made easier because Natuvion’s culture is focused on the customer. Of course, having great products and services is important. But, it’s just not the most important thing. We also focus on customer satisfaction, employee engagement and development, innovation, social responsibility, and financial strength. We recognize that building and maintaining customer and employee relationships is hard work and this makes the maintenance and growth of our company a fabulous experience.
