Evergent: Enabling business success for video service providers

thesiliconreview-vijay-sajja-ceo-evergent-17Evergent is working towards transforming the market by providing cloud-based subscriber and partner management solutions for OTT video service providers. The existing ERP, and operations and business support systems were not flexible and took long to implement. The video service providers need a new class of business management system to thrive in the marketplace, and Evergent provided them with its carrier grade Cloud Business Management Suite, available in private and public cloud configurations.

Evergent has its headquarters in Sunnyvale, California, and has offices in Denver, Colorado, Hyderabad, India, Singapore and Mexico. Its customers include leading carriers such as AT&T, SingTel and T-Mobile, and leading media companies such as FOX International Channels and Sony Entertainment Television, and Business partners such as Brightcove and Ericsson.

We have the CEO with us: Vijay Sajja

Why was the company set up? How did you select the vertical and decide to be a part of the global platform?

Evergent tackled a significant issue that Large Service Providers, Telco and Cable network could not solve internally. The operators were continually facing losses from voice and messaging services, and they had to investigate their choices and search out for new revenue streams. The adoption of OTT technologies helped the broadcasters and operators to meet the requirements of the growing market. This could provide consumers with a true multi-screen experience and premium content even when they were off the managed network. Managing complex user relationship was not a technology they could deploy fast enough to keep pace. Now, companies around the world look forward to Evergent for an enterprise-class, end-to-end solutions support to manage the subscriber life cycle and improve the user’s experience.

Tell us about your first product that was launched and your first project roll on.

Evergent’s team assembled a cloud-based subscriber management system for mobile carriers, broadband providers, cable operators, broadcasters, and content owners. It provides extensive functionality and a rich set of APIs that enable fast deployment of OTT services. It was completely developed internally keeping Carrier-Class Security, Scale and Up time in mind.

Our first project was with SingTel, a telecommunications company based in Singapore. The project was deployed on time and under budget. Since then, it has been a flagship reference for our company.

How have the responses from your consumers motivated you to grow the company over the years?

Our carrier grade cloud-based software enabled our customers and partners to generate more revenue and run their back-offices efficiently. We paid attention to our customer responses and developed our own intellectual property. We believed that client comes first and focused on the core business of extending the relationship of users and the content they love.

What was the biggest challenge that you faced in your initial year?

We were determined to grow from our own revenue and not from venture capital. We took that as a challenge which allowed us to stay focused and control our destiny.

What are the factors that you believe have been/ are the biggest asset to your organization?

Our human resource, customer feedback and Amazon Web Services (AWS) are the most significant asset that we have. We have the most dedicated product development team, and we work closely with our customers and ensure their needs are incorporated in future product development, and we rely on AWS to host our operations at scale. Last but not least, we have kept the company on-track and focused on the right markets.

‘It is difficult to start a venture. But far more difficult to maintain it.’ – How would you and your team interpret this saying?

We had to face many obstacles to enter the market and acquire a substantial market share. Finding and motivating key personnel to win huge accounts like AT&T, SingTel, direcTV was quite tough. Furthermore, our clients started increasing and we provided tenacious service to them which accounted for their success. It took us years to achieve the perfection that we have today.
