“We enhance connectivity with the help of our Predictive Thermal Monitoring technology, which is built on web technologies and offers continuous minute-by-minute monitoring 24/7/365.”
There’s a lot at stake when it’s about managing high-value equipment, assets, or any other perishable products. The need for remote temperature monitoring systems is critical. With Power Technologies Private Limited, you can proactively prevent spoilage, damage, or unsafe conditions with instant alerts. Power Technologies Private Limited offers thermal monitoring solutions with expertise in predictive non-contact monitoring, using industrial IoT, Big Data and AI.
Kuan Heng Lim (George), Managing Director of Power Technologies Private Limited, spoke exclusively to The Silicon Review on how his company is providing clients with innovative thermal monitoring solutions.
Interview Highlights
Q. What circumstances or events led to the creation of Power Technologies Private Limited? Please brief us about the history so far.
November 2013 saw the founding of Power Technologies. As a director at the time, I was responsible for managing the company’s distribution of energy storage, transfer switches, and thermal sensor systems. The investor asked me if I would like to take over the company when he decided to retire in October of 2017. I’ve always aspired to own my own business. I said yes without any doubt. Of course, at the time, it was a difficult decision because I lacked the funds to operate the company, but fortunately, I had the backing of my family and made a small investment. Since then, I have changed my company’s strategy, offering, and remedy to meet market demands.
Today, Power Technologies has two business units: the first unit focuses on IIOT solutions, and the second unit focuses on mission-critical power transfer switch equipment. Power Technologies has distributors in Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines, Vietnam, Cambodia, China, Kuwait, India, Australia, and Indonesia.
Q. How does Power Technologies solve thermal management challenges? What strategies does it implement to drive efficiency?
Technology continues to transform the way we all work. The terms “Industry 4.0” and “fourth industrial revolution” are interchangeable, and they both refer to a new stage in the management and structure of the industrial value chain.
Sustainable engineering principles should be contemplated and applied early to ensure that technology development and scale-up follow an environmentally benign route. Sustainable engineering principles should be taken into account in decision-making for industrial projects as well as in policy-making and decisions regarding a balanced solution to any engineering problem.
There is a phrase that goes, “The only thing constant is change.” Customer current events, financial considerations, technology, and other outside factors are constantly providing challenges for industries large and small. Adaptation is absolutely essential to stay relevant. Our sensor monitoring systems give operators an incredibly efficient way to identify and localize any problems with their infrastructure even before services are affected. With the real-time data at hand, operational teams can immediately respond and resolve any issue, thus shortening repair cycles and improving service quality.
Q. Can you introduce us to your thermal monitoring solutions? What are their key features?
Using infrared, fiber optic, and energy harvesting sensing systems, we have developed, designed, and implemented smart facility solutions for critical infrastructure buildings, commercial buildings, and various sectors. Our EH thermal sensor is the smallest IP 68 sensor in the world, about the same size as a Singapore 50 cent coin (23 x 23 mm). The sensor doesn’t need a battery or electricity to work. The sensor gathers electromagnetic field energy from an electrical cable or busbar that is near the area it wishes to monitor. Our sensor can be used with equipment that is low voltage (110V to 1000V), medium and high voltage (3.3kV to 66kV), and extremely high voltage (110kV to 500kV).
Electrical connections that are loose have been a serious issue in industries. Although there are industry standards that use infrared cameras and human thermography, these methods always have a limited ability to acquire thermal data because of their small field of vision, risk of electrocution, and laborious nature. 34–40% of electrical fires, according to a large insurance survey, are caused by weak connections. Both human thermography and load measurement are unable to identify any of these.
The sensor enables the collection of thermal data that is hidden from the naked eye of a human. Before a large catastrophic failure, it assesses performance and forecasts potential failures. Eventually result in business operations ceasing, loss of production, image, and brand.

Q. Connectivity is critical today, allowing users to be proactive rather than reactive. How do you approach traceability and connectivity?
We enhance connectivity with the help of our Predictive Thermal Monitoring technology, which is built on web technologies and offers continuous minute-by-minute monitoring 24/7/365. With the powerful technologies at our disposal, we can identify and foresee failures before they happen. The most frequent causes of electric failure are known to be severe electrical outages and ARC flash events, which we prevent through thermal imaging inspections. We also offer:
Real-time analytics: The analysis of your data as soon as that data becomes available in your system gives deeper insights that enable your businesses to react without delay.
Remote Device Management: Device management is critical to your business for establishing and maintaining the health, connectivity, and security of your assets.
Instant Notifications: Now, you will be notified immediately through a push notification or via SMS or email on your mobile devices whenever the temperature exceeds the threshold limits, suggesting an abnormality.
High Service Reliability: Known for its level of quality over time and performance with an acceptable degree of compliance.
High Availability: Intelligent Fail-Over Mechanism, 99.9% Uptime
