Since its start-up in 1999, Calfrac has established itself as a key energy service provider and has a reputation for high quality, safe operations and flawless execution. The company’s team has experience working in a variety of geographic environments ranging from the arctic tundra to mountainous and foothills regions to semi-desert and dry tropical regions. Job sites have ranged from remote locations, accessible by ice roads only, to rural areas where regulations pertaining to road restrictions and noise are in place. Calfrac’s primary business is the provision of hydraulic fracturing services. The completion of unconventional reservoirs, including unconventional oil and gas shales, siltstones, mudstones and other traditionally bypassed reservoirs is technically and operationally challenging and characterized by increasing numbers of horizontal wells, multi-stage fracture treatments and elevated pumping pressure demands. Despite numerous challenges, Calfrac stands as a leading service provider in the oil and gas industry.

Services offered

Calfrac primarily offers three services: Hydraulic Fracturing, Coiled Tubing and Cementing.

Hydraulic Fracturing: Calfrac is a full service hydraulic fracturing provider. It provides slickwater solutions for fresh and high TDS brine applications, support for high viscosity friction reducer fracture fluid systems, along with all traditional industry applications of gel based, crosslink and energized fracturing needs. Treatment types and additives (such as surfactants, biocides and diverters) are customized to meet desired operational, treatment and production objectives.

The company’s experience with deep and shallow wells includes wells in excess of 10,000 ft. (3,000 m) true vertical depth, and horizontal wells sometimes reaching 20,000 ft. (6,000 m) total measured depth.

Coiled Tubing: Calfrac coiled tubing services are effective for production stimulation, conducting geophysical logging, well clean-outs and more. The company’s fleet of coiled tubing equipment provides services from shallow through deep — below 10,000 ft. true vertical depth, with reel capacities up to 24,000 ft. for 2 3/8 inches coiled tubing — and covers the majority of today’s wells, including long-leg multi-stage fractured horizontals drilled in deep shales and tight sands.

Cementing: Calfrac provides expert cementing services using modern, reliable equipment, experienced personnel and continually evolving cement blends. Its cement testing labs are state-of-the-art, with modern equipment and testing procedures that meet or exceed industry standards.

Greet the mastermind behind Calfrac: Fernando Aguilar

Fernando, President and Chief Executive Officer started his career in 1981 and has global experience in technology, business and oilfield sectors. In 2008, he joined the Calfrac Board of Directors as an independent member and, in November 2010, the company appointed him President and Chief Operating Officer.

In January 2014, he accepted the role of President and Chief Executive Officer and continues as a board member. Prior to joining Calfrac, Fernando held a variety of executive and senior management positions in the services sector. Over a 19 year period (1984-2003), he progressed through various global assignments in both field and senior management positions at Schlumberger. From 2004 until 2010, he worked for CGGVeritas, a global geophysical services company. Fernando has completed the Stanford Executive MBA program (2003) as well as the Director Education Program (2008) developed by the Institute of Corporate Directors and the Rotman School of Management in conjunction with the Haskayne School of Business.
