In the current data center landscape, infrastructure management and system monitoring go hand in hand. Effective Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM) and system monitoring strategies not only ensure that resources are utilized to the fullest, but can also help to mitigate human error and other causes of downtime. In addition, these monitoring systems can help facility manager’s deal with the rising complexity of current customer environments. Robust DCIM provides key data about all aspects of a data center’s operations including power usage, environmental information and cooling data. In addition to delivering an accurate overview of the current use of resources, this data can also be analyzed and used predictively to assess what equipment needs to be purchased and what power usage and cooling demands need to be taken into account for future growth. DCIM allows you to track energy usage and pinpoint energy that’s going to non-essential processes or systems that consume a lot of power so that you can adapt your infrastructure accordingly.

Modius is a leading provider of critical infrastructure management software for optimizing the infrastructure and operations of critical facilities, data center infrastructure management (DCIM), smart buildings, industry 4.0 and other IoT environments. The company’s mission is to simplify the operations of the increasingly diverse and complex facilities and IT environment in IoT, while markedly improving performance efficiencies. Founded in 2004 with headquarters in San Francisco, California, Modius has customer deployments across the Americas and Asia. Modius’ flagship offering, OpenData, is a software application that actively integrates power and environmental intelligence with other management applications. OpenData software solutions by the firm are completely vendor neutral and highly scalable with no coding required adding new devices across multiple sites. OpenData’s ease-of-use and flexibility are unprecedented: Users can easily configure their own dashboards and reports with the power of advanced OpenData Analytics at their fingertips.

Industry-leading products and solutions offered by Modius

OpenData IoT Platform: Built for Enteprise Scale, OpenData from Modius is a highly scalable, software platform designed to collect and normalize performance data from devices, (IT & Network equipment, Telco, wired & wireless sensors, IoT devices, etc.), software applications (BMS, CMDB, ITSM, ERP, etc.), and supporting building infrastructure (Power, Cooling, Security, etc.). This real-time data provides the foundation for making quicker and better operational decisions for the management of data centers, and other mission-critical facilities. This data can also be used to support applications based on the Internet of Things.

OpenData Architecture: OpenData was built specifically to solve the problem of high volume, real-time data collection across globally dispersed sites. The OpenData software collectors sit at the edge of the network, collecting, normalizing and time-synchronizing data from all device types, facility infrastructure and other applications before transferring it to a centralized database for further analysis or distribution to other application through API and Web Services integration points. The diagram above illustrates how the components of the OpenData platform are architected to provide a highly-scalable solution for monitoring and managing critical infrastructure.

OpenData Power Management: Data Center and Facility operators are tasked with ensuring maximum uptime, minimizing utility costs, and ensuring adequate power capacity exists to support an ever-changing allocation of equipment, systems and devices. The power distribution infrastructure must be managed to provide a nimble response to business requirements that maintain operational momentum and a competitive edge. Data Center and Facility operators are tasked with managing a dynamic set of technology requirements to meet corporate goals. Knowing exactly where capacity exists for new equipment deployment or equipment relocation without jeopardizing service level agreements, is critical for rapid response to business requirements. Advanced Power Management is the key to infrastructure optimization and agile support of business initiatives.
