thesiliconreview-tom-fallon-director-ceo-infinera-18Infinera empowers network operators to scale bandwidth while accelerating service innovation and automating optical network operations. Service providers, cloud operators, governments and enterprises across the globe rely on Infinera Intelligent Transport Networks to create rich end-user experiences based on efficient, high-bandwidth optical networks.

Infinera was founded with the vision of enabling an infinite pool of intelligent bandwidth that the next communications infrastructure is built upon.

Infinera offers an end-to-end portfolio of packet-optical solutions for the long-haul, metro, and cloud. It believes that when its customers win, it wins. Meeting customers’ specific deployment needs and providing industry-leading customer support is in its DNA.

Infinera Intelligent Transport Networks: An Infinite Pool of Intelligent Bandwidth

Infinera’s optical technology and network solutions are leading innovation for cloud and 5G networking.

The cloud is open and infinitely scalable and programmable, while 5G requires superior performance. Infinera is bringing its cloud and 5G innovation to subsea, long-haul, metro and fiber-deep access networks around the globe.

Its products feature industry-leading optical performance for capacity-reach, high service port density, a low power profile and software that allows instant turn-up of high-value services, enabling its communication service provider, internet content provider (ICP), utility, government and enterprise customers to realize the maximum possibilities for their business.

DTN-X Family: The DTN-X Family of multi-terabit multiplexing, switching and transport platforms are enabled by Infinera’s Infinite Capacity Engine (ICE)-based optical technology, delivering unmatched instant optical scalability with industry-leading capacity-reach performance. Instantly turn up optical channels when needed and then return bandwidth to the pool when finished to create a virtual, on-demand, infinite pool of intelligent bandwidth.

XTM Series: The Carrier Ethernet 2.0-certified, multi-terabit XTM Series packet-optical transport system provides a single platform for mobile front haul and backhaul, data center interconnect (DCI), Carrier Ethernet and wholesale services, with superior timing and synchronization for LTE-A and performance and scalability for 5G.

Flex ILS: Flex ILS is an open, flexible grid optical line system with up to 20-degree colorless directionless contention less FlexROADM (reconfigurable optical add-drop multiplexer), C- and L-band operation and Generalized Multiprotocol Label Switching control. It operates with both Infinera’s products and third-party terminals.

Cloud Xpress Family: The Cloud Xpress Family offers simple, compact, rack-and-stack, plug-and-play DCI platforms designed to meet the demands of ICPs. It offers industry-leading capacity performance thanks to Infinera’s ICE-based optical technology.

Xceed Software Suite: Xceed is an open source-based software-defined networking (SDN) platform with a multi-layer SDN controller and a robust portfolio of applications.

Infinera Management Suite: The Infinera Management Suite portfolio of software products features the Element Management System (EMS), Graphical Node Manager (GNM), Network Planning System (NPS) and more, providing comprehensive, easy-to-use tools for FCAPS (fault, configuration, accounting, performance, and security) and operational support system (OSS) interfacing.

Infinera Solutions Overview

Network operators of all kinds are facing the challenge of scaling their networks and the operational teams that run them to meet growing traffic demand.  The response of the wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM) industry historically has been to ramp up wavelength data rates, but this approach on its own is now hitting the fundamental limits of optical physics.

Infinera has added a new dimension of scalability in the form of the coherent super-channel, which allows an individual network engineer to turn up five times the capacity in the same amount of time as 100 gigabits per second (Gb/s) transponder.  Infinera has made this capability cash flow-efficient using its Instant Bandwidth capability, and it has transformed this raw super-channel capacity into an infinite pool of intelligent bandwidth using Bandwidth Virtualization.  This non-blocking Optical Transport Network (OTN) switching capability provides everything from point-and-click service provisioning using Generalized Multi-Protocol Label Switching (GMPLS) and Transport Software-defined Networking (SDN) to the enhanced, hardware-assisted service protection provided by Infinera’s unique FastSMP shared mesh protection technology.

Happy Clients

“The backbone of our R&E network was previously built on Ethernet technology with low transmission speeds, causing us challenges in supporting the significant bandwidth demanded by scientific experiments and other academic projects. The Cloud Xpress provided the best transport technology to upgrade our network, with ease of use and scalable bandwidth to deliver 100 GB/s services and enable future growth up to 8 Tb/s per fiber pair.”

  • Marian Ďurkovič Network Architect of SANET

“Infinera’s packet optical solution offers an effective approach to optimize the GÉANT network and efficiently and optimally handle large traffic flows. We look forward to realizing the expected efficiencies and operational benefits of this solution, and continuing our excellent collaborative work with Infinera on future applications.”

  • Mark Johnston Chief Network Operations Officer of GÉANT
