Overt Skincare: Transforming the Skincare Industry through Transparency, Efficacy, and Charity

Rory Semple and Giselle Chirinos started Overt because they saw a big problem with the beauty industry. They saw an industry full of confusing ingredients, misleading statements, poor production, and hype driven formulations. They found that it was difficult to find products that were both well formulated and actually worked.

That is where the idea of Overt was born, a skincare company that was transparent, effective, and charitable. One that went beyond just making good products, but doing good for the world too. Overt Skincare wants to hold itself, and the industry, to a higher standard. The company has set out to build a community of likeminded individuals who appreciated good skincare. That said, the duo needed to find the right partners to enable this change.

They set out globally to find a facility that matched their expectations for sourcing, testing and production. Cruelty-free, excellent formulations and FDA certifications were just the start. The founders of Overt eliminated hundreds of candidates to arrive at the facility they use today. Today, the in-house R&D department, coupled with the experience of the researchers, as well as the qualifications the facility holds, makes it the perfect place to create world class skincare.

"All of the Overt products are formulated with the highest quality ingredients that are scientifically proven to work on solving common skincare issues."

The company's family-owned facility is located in the suburbs of Guangzhou, and has been producing skincare for over fifteen years. The research and development department has over 70 years of combined experience in developing skincare for markets across Asia. The team includes two PhDs and four chemical engineers.

Overt could not settle for anything less than perfect. Its cruelty-free facility is FDA and GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice for Cosmetics) certified. Additionally, it is ISO 9001 and ISO 22716 certified for quality control, production, storage and shipment of skincare.  The company collaborates with them to develop products that are safe, effective, and sustainable. They only use ingredients that they know will deliver on the promises to you.

By being open with their production processes, ingredient sourcing, distribution, and more, Overt allows consumers to feel secure in making the right choice not only for their skin, but for their morals, too. The brand’s collection features five essential serums that were made using sustainably sourced ingredients to produce world class, gender neutral products packed with effective, proven ingredients without unnecessary fillers.

All of the Overt products are formulated with the highest quality ingredients that are scientifically proven to work on solving common skincare issues. Overt does not include unnecessary fillers, parabens, or SLS (sodium lauryl sulfates). They make their products with recyclable materials. Overt brings them directly to you to maintain exceptional value.

Sustainability in Focus

Sustainability is central to the identity of Overt. The company wants its products, packaging, and sourcing to reflect its pledge. It has committed to using responsibly-sourced ingredients, recyclable packaging, and sustainable partners in the production of its world-class skincare.

Overt Skincare's products are made with recyclable or biodegradable products. From the box it is shipped in to the bottle it's packaged in, all of it can be recycled appropriately. So much of what Overt produces comes from nature. It is important to source sustainably to respect the environment and live up to its brand values.

That is why Overt commits to the auditing of its supply chain to ensure that what they use is sourced with the best sustainability practices. This includes avoiding controversial or exploitative ingredients in their products.

Overt uses sea shipping to minimize the impact they have upon the environment. Long-haul sea shipping generates 47x less greenhouse gas emissions as air shipping, per ton-mile. The company looks for every chance to reduce its carbon emissions throughout the supply chain. This includes transportation of its products.

To highlight their commitment to transparency throughout the production, supply chain, and sustainable sourcing process, Overt commits to donating 10% of their net profit to fight slavery and human trafficking. They believe that if every company took the same steps they do to ensure ethical sourcing and supply chain integrity, much of what consists of modern-day slavery would not exist. Overt plans to not only change the industry, but the world, for the better.
