The Silicon Review
“As the world is increasingly interconnected, everyone shares the responsibility of securing cyberspace.”- Newton Lee
Lastline, Inc. was founded in 2011 by university researchers Engin Kirda, Christopher Kruegel, and Giovanni Vigna. Lastline’s security products synthesize and bring to commercial standards the founders’ award-winning, world-renowned academic research on malware analysis and countermeasures.
The company is focused on real-time analysis of advanced malware and knowing the Internet’s malicious infrastructure. Lastline leverages this threat intelligence to create advanced malware defenses for companies of all sizes.
By focusing on cloud-based automated systems and processes, Lastline has developed the technology to analyze advanced malware at an unprecedented speed and volume. This gives it the ability to analyze binaries and web content in real-time as it enters the Enterprise network, as well as the ability to map the Malscape at a level of accuracy and relevance not previously available. Lastline’s higher level of accuracy and attention to the everyday requirements of IT managers allows for the delivery of actionable threat intelligence to security teams and to companies that rely on managed security services for their protection.
The founders are also the founders of iSecLab. They are well-known for their development of Anubis and Wepawet, cloud-based malware analysis tools with a user base of tens of thousands of users. They have each published over a hundred scientific papers, and are considered to be today’s thought leaders on automated high-resolution malware analysis and detection.
Cyber Security Services
Lastline provides comprehensive breach detection of advanced and evasive threats across the entire enterprise — different operating systems (Windows, Mac OS X, and Android), physical and virtual hosts, services, users, network infrastructure and Web, email, content, and mobile applications.
Strategically position defenses across not only the perimeter, but also the data center, internal networks and distribution layers to add additional security and prevent lateral infection spread. Lastline software can be installed on standard server hardware or virtual instances, so deployment is possible in environments where the installation of an appliance is not.
With Lastline Analyst, the security auditors, malware researchers, and incident control personnel can obtain detailed information about malware infecting the systems. Utilize Lastline’s next-generation sandbox and its full-system emulation capabilities to comprehensively inspect objects and URLs for advanced malware analysis.
Lastline Detonator enhances the capabilities of existing investments by protecting organizations from advanced and evasive threats across the whole enterprise – analyzing content across operating systems (Windows, Mac OS X, and Android).
Advanced Malware Labs
Lastline Labs is the research and development arm of Lastline Inc., where some of the best minds in the academic community collaborate to advance novel technologies relevant to cyber security. Its team analyzes new security threats, vulnerabilities and hacking techniques as well as the evolution, proliferation and impact of advanced malware. Headquartered in Santa Barbara, California, the team consists of over 30 expert scientists and engineers throughout the Americas, Europe and Asia. Lastline Labs enables Lastline Inc. to continue to develop cutting-edge technology to defend against evolving threats and shape the future of security.
The Lastline Labs team is led by award-winning, world-renowned university researchers, Engin Kirda, Christopher Kruegel and Giovanni Vigna. The trio are well known for their development of Anubis and Wepawet, cloud-based malware analysis tools with a user base in the tens of thousands. In 2011, Dr. Kirda, Dr. Kruegel and Dr. Vigna founded Lastline, Inc. with the goal of extending the relationship between industry and academia, and bringing their research to commercial standards. Dr. Kirda, Dr. Kruegel and Dr. Vigna are also the founders of iSecLab, an international system security research lab with an emphasis on web security, malware analysis, intrusion detection and vulnerability analysis. Each has published over a hundred scientific papers, and is considered to be a pioneer in the cyber security field.
Some of many happy clients
“Today’s cyber criminals have already figured out how to get past traditional sandboxing and Lastline’s full-emulation technology is clearly the best-of-breed solution in the market.”- Dave R. Taylor, WatchGuard
“I would highly recommend Lastline to any company that is entrusted with customer data.”- Tom Lindblom, CKE Restaurants, Inc.
Meet the Master
Christopher Kruegel, CEO: Christopher’s research interests focus on computer and communications security, with an emphasis on malware analysis and detection, web security, and intrusion detection. He is a Professor of Computer Science at UC Santa Barbara. Christopher has published more than 100 peer-reviewed papers in top computer security conferences and has been the recipient of the NSF CAREER Award, MIT Technology Review TR35 Award for young innovators, IBM Faculty Award, and several best paper awards. He regularly serves on program committees of leading computer security conferences. Christopher was the Program Committee Chair of the Usenix Workshop on Large Scale Exploits and Emergent Threats (LEET, 2011), the International Symposium on Recent Advances in Intrusion Detection (RAID, 2007), the ACM Workshop on Recurring Malcode (WORM, 2007), and the ACM Conference on Computer and Communications Security (CCS 2016). He was also the head of a working group that advised the European Commission (EC) on defenses to mitigate future threats against the Internet and Europe’s cyber-infrastructure.
