With global staff strength of 7,000 employees, the Group operates more than 850 bakeries, 26 internationally acclaimed Din Tai Fung restaurants in Singapore and Thailand, as well as 60 award-winning Food Republic food atria in China, Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Taiwan and Thailand.

The Odyssey of BreadTalk

2000: 1st BreadTalk outlet opens at Bugis Junction, Singapore, Launches its signature Flosss bun with spiralling long queues and George Quek targets to open 10 BreadTalk outlets in 3 years.

2002: BreadTalk receives the SPBA Most Promising Brand Award and is voted by consumers as Most Popular Brand, George Quek wins the Entrepreneur of the Year Award (ASME and the Rotary Club)

2003: BreadTalk Group Limited is listed on Sesdaq, on Singapore Exchange, First overseas outlet opens in Jakarta, Indonesia, Sets up PRC’s Headquarters and opens the first outlet in Shanghai. BreadTalk receives the Singapore Prestigious Brand Award Distinctive Brand Award (Distinctive Brand Award)

2004: Brings in Din Tai Fung – Ranked one of the World’s Top Ten Best Restaurants by The New York Times and creates a craze for xiao long bao with 2-hour queues and BreadTalk is a winner in the Design for Asia Award, Hong Kong Design Centre

2006: George Quek wins the Emerging Entrepreneur Category of the Entrepreneur of the Year Awards 2006, organized by The Business Times and Ernst & Young, Receives the Five Star Diamond Brand awarded by the World Brand Laboratory in Shanghai, PRC

2007: the 1st Food Republic opens in Kuala Lumpur’s Pavilion Shopping Centre, Malaysia and BreadTalk celebrates its 100th store worldwide opening in Shanghai, PRC

2009: BreadTalk inks a 12-Country Middle East Master Franchise agreement with Bahraini partner, Pan Arabian Gourmet. BreadTalk puts Singapore on the world retail map as it emerges as a finalist in the Emerging Retailer of the Year Category at the World Retail Awards, Spain. BreadTalk is listed by Brand Finance, an international, independent asset valuation company as one of the Top 100 brands in Singapore

2012: Global Launch of BreadTalk Gen4 concept, Shanghai, Launch of 70-year Thye Moh Chan confectionery and Winner of Five Star Diamond Award, World Brand Laboratory, Shanghai

2014: BreadTalk Group’s presence can now be felt in 16 territories around the world with more than 800 outlets across 8 brands. First Singaporean Brand to win “Growth Market Retailer of the year” at World Retail Awards 2014, held at the prestigious Salle Wagram in Paris.

2015: BreadTalk’s new global concept store launches at VivoCity, Singapore – Celebrating natural goodness, baking artistry and digital engagement for consumers. BreadTalk, Toast Box, Food Republic and Din Tai Fung consecutively tops Influential Brands survey 2013-2015.

2016: BreadTalk Group forges joint venture to enter the United Kingdom with Din Tai Fung restaurants and BreadTalk signs agreement to enter Myanmar market

2017: BreadTalk clinched the World Branding Awards for the third time in 3 years as the sole bakery representative from Singapore. BreadTalk and Din Tai Fung clinched the Influential Brands Award for the fourth consecutive year in 2017. BreadTalk opened our first Myanmar outlet at Junction City Mall in Yangon on 10 May 2017. ToastBox opened our first outlet in Terminal 3 of Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, Jakarta in May 2017 and BreadTalk Group partnered with Song Fa Holdings on 3 July 2017 to bring their renowned Teochew Bak Kut Teh cuisine to China and Thailand.
