This platform helps facilitate engagement and foster adaptation to step-transformation care strategies during changing business conditions.

Standpoint Software LLC provides an AI-assisted Clinical Care Team Performance platform that enables a measure of a care team's analysis of treatment. A technology called ETHoS™, which augments care team insight and prediction to hospital physicians the remarkable ability to analyze a team's causation, influence, and impact on improving their hospital's care team's performance around a patient's episode of care, leading to extraordinary improvements in hospital quality of outcome and cost of care, per patient. Standpoint operates in the United States.

The company was incorporated in 2019 and is headquartered in Seattle, WA.

The Silicon Review reached out to Standpoint Software headquarters and spoke with Stephen Overman, co-founder, who serves as the company’s Chief Executive Officer. Here’s what he said.

Interview Highlights

Q. How does Standpoint Software solve the problem of unseen variabilities in care teams?

Standpoint Software has built a platform called ETHoS™ that helps explicitly solve the three CRITICAL problems that lead physicians and their care teams experience during perioperative patient episodes of care in a hospital that affect patient cost and the quality of outcome.

Care Team Communication Errors: A patient care team's communication performance is very impactful to the patient costs and the quality of the outcome. Non-effective communication is especially critical in perioperative settings, like surgery and "hand-offs" transitions. Care performance is about physicians' and clinicians' interactions and coordination during an episode of care. Unfortunately, the average U.S. hospital loses $1.7 million a year due to poor coordination and communication among members. Miscommunications among care teams during perioperative care transitions are estimated to be around 80% of all serious medical errors. Perioperative nurses play a crucial role in team transitions. For example, 32% of all malpractice claims involve nurses.

Clinical Care Pathway Unwarranted Variabilities: Unwarranted clinical variation contributes to U.S. hospitals' multimillion-dollar care overuse, underuse, and misuse problems. A 2012 JAMA study found that at least 20% of clinical care spending could be reduced without affecting outcomes. Champion physicians in hospitals complain they don't always have the time or access to timely deep clinical/cost insight analysis to understand better the patient trending variations in care pathway during the episode of care. As a result, higher spending physicians do not correlate well with better quality outcomes for the length of stay and readmissions.

Coordination Effectiveness: According to a new report, the average U.S. hospital loses $1.7 million a year due to poor coordination and communication among staff members. Costs add up to about $12 billion per year, about two percent of revenue. In addition, roughly 80% of medical errors result from poor communication, highlighting what is at stake when communication is not optimized. What is coordination effectiveness? It's highly connected to the people of the perioperative team to behaviors of interaction, close working relationships, socialization, advice seeking, advice giving, and voice concerns. These people characteristics represent the relational ties among care team members, specifically in perioperative phases of a patient episode of care in a hospital.

Standpoint Software has built a platform called ETHoS™. This care team performance tool augments the care team, specifically the lead physician, with powerful insight into the problem of unseen variabilities negatively generating risks inherited from communication and care pathway insight, impacting the quality of patient outcomes and cost. A leading driver to care overuse, underuse, and misuse, healthcare's multi-billion-dollar problem in U.S. hospitals. These perioperative patient handoffs and transition risks are the leading cause of morbidity and mortality in the U.S.

Standpoint's mission is to significantly give the patient care team a tool that augments the acute patient's champion physician and care teams with the power to improve clinical and team performance, ultimately driving a higher quality of patient outcome at a lower cost. Care team members access ETHoS™ via a secure mobile device or workstation app; The interface is a cloud-based workplace communication tool, a single place for secure messaging, tools, and files.’ This means ETHoS™ is an instant messaging and video conferencing system with many add-ins for other workplace tools. All communications are kept securely for referencing and look-backs. Moving your hospital teams to communicate, network, collaborate, and coordinate in one dedicated channel that can be interfaced and alerted in a mobile setting keeps the team where they need to be, close to the patients 24 hrs. ETHoS™ is HIPPA compliant.

Q. What can you tell us about ETHoS™, and how does it empower physicians?

We have built the unique combination of specialized augmented intelligence from A.I. and Social Network Analysis in a secure digital collaboration network, all into one platform we call ETHoS™, A Care Coordination Performance platform. It's a care performance-based platform that integrates into existing hospital clinical, supply chain, and financial systems.

Physicians and their clinical teams are naturally motivated to make better and faster care decisions per patient to increase their contribution to care performance during the management of the care episode. However, during the patient episode-of-care, they often lack the predictive insight to help augment them to higher operational performance.

Physicians are part of an involved formal and informal, networked community where they share patients, information, and clinical decisions. Standpoint’s ETHoS™ provides them with the secure connectivity to collaborate over key care impact factors, beyond just clinical, per patient episode. In a patient-centric framework, it is a place to voice their objectives, set goals, capture ideas, and seek opinions regarding trending variabilities in the clinical path.

Likewise, Standpoint's ETHoS™ augmented intelligence brings a new kind of deep clinical insight to physicians, driven to them as relevant and actionable data. Augmented intelligence is derived from disparate data sources inside hospital I.T. systems and delivered to the physician as digital insight cards. Insight cards into the weighted impacts on patient trending variabilities compared to similar historical patient outcome communities. Input data measures originate from clinical care path, care resource cost, quality, choice, and physician coordination between the care team and referral network. No other services can compete with ETHoS™ with such ease of use and comprehensiveness to collaborative over care insight in one network that brings all parts of care performance in a physician's world into one 360 degrees view.

The ETHoS™ platform, crafted as a care transformation toolkit, is for hospitals to manage a value-based care environment. It aids physicians and clinical core groups save millions in operational and clinical expenses and building optimal incentive programs for clinicians. Also, it helps facilitate engagement and foster adaptation to step-transformation care strategies during changing business conditions.

Q. What new endeavors is Standpoint currently undertaking?

We are an early-stage company focused on healthcare applications of our ETHoS™ platform, working with hospital pilots to customize it for operational use in each hospital.

Q. How skilled is the Standpoint team of experts? And how do they bring value to the company?

Our team is made of top healthcare experts, software and technology, artificial intelligence, and social network analysis professionals who have significant industry experience. Each brings a well-experienced contribution to the team. On the clinical side, we have actual long-term clinicians in the unique, specialized hospitals and specialists incorporated into driving requirements to meet the need of these hospitals.

Q. What is your final message to The Silicon Review reader, your current and future clients and partners?

Only ETHoS™ can provide physicians with patient-specific assessments in real-time that support clinical decisions, improve prescribing practices, reduce medication and communication errors, enhance the delivery of primary and secondary prevention, and improve adherence to standards of care. It’s a real tool for doctors.

ETHoS™ is an AI-driven precision care tool that melds clinical quality, cost, and teamwork effectiveness into one model. ETHoS™ pulls data from a hospital's data systems and intelligently augments the physician with deep insight to help expose clinical variation and optimize team connectedness. Furthermore, it helps reduce communication errors during patient flow by supporting better information exchange during handoffs and transitions.

In a nutshell, ETHoS™ serves the physician-led care team to achieve a higher quality outcome, lower cost, and care team performance in the most optimal way, helping physicians and patients and the bottom line.
