In Conversation with the Founder and CEO, Dr. David Hagedorn

Why was the company set up? How did you select the vertical and decide to be a part of the global platform?

I was hired by the Navy as a civilian to teach mental health and medical neuroscience methods within the U.S. Navy Family

Medicine Residency program at Camp Lejeune. Evoke Neuroscience was formed to develop an automated, wireless, non-intrusive, low cost, rapid deployment brain function measurement and brain treatment system. It was designed to be easily and reliably used by any level technician and to provide quantitative analysis reports of heart rate variability, sensory processing evoke potentials, cognitive and memory processing evoke potentials, and full brain region measures against normal comparison groups. The product was developed by doctors for doctors.

What challenges did you face in your initial years? What can your peers learn from it?

There is far more to building a successful business than an angel investment and a great idea. The core leadership must be tireless, highly focused, and driven by doing what is right for the company, the stock holders, the consumers and the staff. I believe that a solid work ethic blended with unwavering moral and ethical principles are the secret sauce to the business growth and success recipe.

If you have to list the factors that have been/are the biggest asset to your organization, what would they be and why?

The primary and largest shareholder has been wise, patient, kind, and stable without a self-serving bone in his body. A man of great success and greater moral fiber. He is a significant asset of the organization.

The company founders have a nice blend of talents and clinical experience that permit the development and improvement of the product to do as it was intended, to help individual patients.

The staff members love their jobs.  Each member gives 100% and loves doing so. They are talented and eager to make the product and customer experience better. They are more than the backbone of the company; they are the breath of life within the company.

How big is your organization today?

We have about 20 staff in three locations. Ideally, we would consolidate all staff under one roof, but the higher need is talented people with strong work ethics. We actually see some of our hardest working and most productive staff at the smaller locations, a testament to these individuals that love their work and maintain daily dedication to excellence.

Where do you see you and your company a couple of years from now?

Within the last year, several capital groups and interested investors in healthcare and technology funds have expressed interest in our company. There are merger opportunities of late and with our upcoming additional low-cost consumer focused products, the potential for moving the company to a public offering is taking shape. There is always the potential to sell the company now that it has matured to a point of profitability and adding market ready products and services.
