Powering Trusted Identities of People, Places and Things: HID Global

thesiliconreview-stefan-widing-ceo-hid-global-17“We make it possible for people to transact safely, work productively and travel freely.”

The world is driven by technology now. Every arena is getting digitalized and identity in the digital world is crucial. The need for a robust identity and access management (IAM) strategy has become an integral part of enterprise IT. Meanwhile Spam, Fraud, Phishing and Cyber Crime succeed by being able to steal identities and impersonate individuals. Businesses rely on steadfast identity and IAM solutions to boost employee productivity and strengthen their overall security stance.

Legacy of Two Decades

HID Global is one of the rapidly growing cybersecurity solution providers, gaining momentum for its robust quality, innovative designs and industry leadership. HID Global provides IT security, including strong authentication/credential management; physical access control, credential personalization; visitor management; government ID and identification technologies for a range of applications. HID also offers its own certificate authority and PKI solutions.

Headquartered in Austin, Texas, end-users of HID Global solutions include many Fortune 1000 customers as well as businesses and organizations in virtually all industry sectors, including government, healthcare, retail, industrial, commercial, airports/ports, finance and education. Established in 1991, as Hughes Identification Devices (HID), a subsidiary of Hughes Aircraft, HID Global is an ASSA ABLOY Group brand.

A Stronghold of Cybersecurity in Silicon Valley

Although HID Global has a vast expertise of two decades in identity solutions, the company’s cyber-focused, software-based business is fairly new and just getting into its groove. With core offices in Fremont and San Jose, HID has been investing in its presence – its center of excellence – in Silicon Valley of late, as it expands into new areas that pertain to identity and access management (IAM).

Under new leadership, HID’s IAM Solutions business brings together some of the brightest minds, top talent and forward thinkers. The product leadership, stability and culture of innovation of HID Global make it one of Silicon Valley’s best kept secrets, but what’s more interesting about this company is its continued, rapid advancement of cyber security. “Without HID, the world would be a much scarier place online.”

Digital technology from HID Global is used to help reduce risk of intrusions, for example, at sporting events, such as the Rio games in 2016. The company worked behind the scenes in Brazil a year ago to protect sports venues by verifying the identity of athletes, staff members, guests and volunteers. Potential threats were prevented through one of the world’s most advanced forms of managing identities at large events– all connected and driven by identity-aware, intelligent software from HID Global.

Today the company’s latest mobile app, HID Approve, has turned a mobile device into a handheld validation device or authenticator, giving people the power to better control the use of their identity in cyberspace. “Our latest mobile app HID Approve is transforming secure digital transactions. We are significantly simplifying and empowering consumers to better protect their finances, reduce fraud and, ultimately, have peace of mind.” says Brad Jarvis, Vice President and Managing Director, IAM Solutions with HID Global.
