Empowering humanity to choose a world without poverty: Thankyou Group

thesiliconreview-thankyou-group-2017Thankyou is a movement of people for people - a social enterprise.

Thankyou has over 45 products, including water, food, body care and baby products, with 100% of profits funding life-changing projects for those in need. Millions of consumers have made the switch to Thankyou and, through their purchases, have contributed millions of dollars to fund thousands of food, water and sanitation and child and maternal heal solutions in 18 countries. 100% of the profit of this book, Chapter One, will fund the second chapter of this journey. Thank you for your investment – you have helped to fund the future, create new products and expand to new markets, all with the goal to impact thousands (and one-day millions) of lives around the world.

Thankyou’s business is owned by the Thankyou Charitable Trust, a registered charitable entity. After Thankyou's costs are taken care of, it gives 100% of its profits to the trust, which then distributes the funds to life-changing food, water and health and sanitation programs around the world. The firm always has and always will exist 100% for ending the effects of global poverty.

Genesis of Thankyou

Thankyou was born in 2008 in response to the World Water Crisis. At that time, over 900 million people didn't have access to safe drinking water on a daily basis, yet the Australian bottled water industry was worth an estimated $600 million a year. Pretty wild given Aussies can access safe water straight from the tap!

Thankyou’s co-founder Daniel Flynn pulled together a group of friends in Melbourne and together turned an idea to launch a line of bottled water that would fund water projects overseas into a reality. In July 2013, the company rebranded as Thankyou, complete with two new ranges: food and body care and today, Thankyou has over 50 products available in 5500 outlets in Australia (including 7 Eleven, Coles and Woolworths). The idea was to take a more holistic approach to combating poverty, with 100% of our profits funding safe water, food and hygiene and sanitation services around the world. In 2016, it launched Thankyou baby, a range of nappies and baby care funding child and maternal health programs around the globe to empower families in need.

Chapter One: Changing the World

CHAPTER ONE is a story of epic proportions by Thankyou co-founders Daniel Flynn. The social enterprise exists to give 100% of profits to help end global poverty through the sale of their consumer products. The journey of Thankyou is a bumpy and entertaining ride of gut-wrenching decisions, wild mistakes and daring moves into business, marketing, social enterprise and beyond. Chapter One is more than a book. It’s an invitation, addressed to you. To inspire you to challenge what you know and remind you that crazy ideas can become a reality. It’s also an opportunity to be a part of something big; something that could change the course of history!

Project Based-Model

Thankyou works with its project partners and local communities using projects based, impact model to implement solutions based on the individual need of each context. Below is a list of all current impact partners the firm is working with.

  • Thankyou believes in partnerships. It partners with organizations aligning with its core impact values to fund sustainable projects that empower communities and create real lasting change.
  • Thankyou’s impact model means it does not form exclusive partnerships with any partners. Instead, Thankyou funds individual projects, proposed by its impact partners, which meet its impact values and criteria.
  • Once all the criteria have been met, Thankyou gives funding to the chosen partner, who are responsible for implementing solutions on the ground. They keep Thankyou up-to-date with progress reports through the project, which Thankyou then pass on to its Thankyou customers via Track Your Impact™

Our Core Impact Values

Learning and Evidence: We never claim to know it all, and our impact partners don’t either. Together, we are committed to ongoing learning and development through intentionally collecting evidence that demonstrates long-lasting impact.

Empowerment: We believe the communities we serve are the solutions to the issues they face. Our role is to come alongside them, and back their dreams for their own communities. Education and the transfer of skills are therefore at the core of every program we fund.

People: A skilled, dedicated and passionate team is the greatest determinant of an organization’s success. Our impact partners both foster and retain incredible people who live and breathe what they say.

Kudos to the Founding Crew

Daniel Flynn, Co-founder, and Managing Director: Daniel established Thankyou alongside a group of co-founders at the ripe old age of 19 and every day he continues to drive Thankyou’s vision to see global poverty eradicated with the goal to help millions of people in need. Jarryd Burns, Co-founder, and Commercial Director: Jarryd heads up all of our commercial operations, which means he's a pretty busy guy.
