“Our music intelligence platform synthesizes billions of data points and transforms into musical understanding to power smarter music applications”: The Echo Nest

thesiliconreview-jim-lucchese-ceo-the-echo-nest-2017Technology is taking a whole another turn covering each and every space possible. Music being the new vertical, it is really interesting to see the role of Big Data in the evolution of music intelligence. Almost two decades ago, the popularity of music was limited to CDs, radio airplay, and concert box offices. Then, in the early nineties, online music sales and mp3’s came into the scenario which has become the dominant ways to consume music 20 years later.

It feels fantastic to think about the capabilities and choices people now have considering the music industry. From commercial streaming music services to community music sharing sites, music fanatics have access to a vast library of music with control of how, where and when they want to stream their favorite track.

Another place where the harmony between Big Data and music can be seen is in the knowledge it provides record companies. Joining the right data sources can give record companies the ability to go beyond what’s hot to uncover what will be hot, who will listen to it and how they’ll consume it.
