Nu Wonderful U LLC, founded in 2021 by Dr. Fredina Weems, is a faith-centered wellness and lifestyle company that helps women of all ages discover wholeness in spirit, soul, and body. Rooted in the belief that every woman is wonderfully made, the company blends wellness education, fitness, and faith to build confidence and balance from childhood through adulthood. Dr. Weems, an educator, coach, and speaker, shares God’s love through practical health and lifestyle guidance, while her husband, Byron, inspires others through music and ministry. Together, they live by a simple philosophy: Jesus, Family, Fitness, and Fun, turning those values into daily habits that define both their home and their work.

The story of Nu Wonderful U LLC began with a deep foundation of faith and family. The Weems and Usher families shared a friendship for more than forty years, a bond that eventually brought Byron and Fredina together in marriage and mission. From her early days leading neighborhood workouts at her parents’ daycare in Cleveland to her current work as a wellness advocate, Dr. Weems has always believed in helping women see their worth through health and faith. Today, Nu Wonderful U LLC continues that purpose by using wellness coaching and inspirational music to guide women toward greater confidence, emotional balance, and a steady walk with God.

In conversation with Dr. Fredina Weems, Owner and Founder of Nu Wonderful U LLC

Who inspired you to start your business, and how did their example shape your journey as a founder?

Even though my handsome husband, Byron, and I are the CEO /FOUNDER, there beside God, there is a lady whom I consider my superstar and mentor, who initiated the whole process. Her name is Estella Usher, my mother. She and my father, Fred Usher, opened a daycare when I was a child. My sisters and I saw firsthand the ups/downs, financial challenges, hatred through jealousy, discrimination, and racism. Yet, my mother chose to work as a nurse at night and run the daycare during the day. My father combed our hair, fed us, and prepared us for school. Their love for God, self, each other, Us (their children), and their desire to make a difference came together in the business. My mother told us daily, “Be the best you can be and don’t let anyone stomp out your dreams.

Your leadership philosophy is built on a foundation of “Jesus, family, fitness, and fun.” How does anchoring your business in faith and family inform your decisions as a woman CEO, especially when navigating the unique challenges and opportunities of being a woman in the leadership space?

This provides a holistic balance (spirit, soul, and body). The spiritual health radiates through one’s faith in Jesus Christ. This allows the inner spirit to flourish in health, which triggers in one’s mind, feelings, and emotions (soul), and can be visually seen through the five senses (taste, touch, smell, hear, and see). As one generates a healthy internal self-image, she can make healthier self-choices. Her free will motivates her to step out and pursue her goals while helping others. This becomes a win-win situation within her surroundings. She can inspire and encourage us not to quit during challenges but to keep moving forward.

Nu Wonderful U LLC’s “holistic” model serves the spirit, soul, and body. As a woman leader, how do you bring a uniquely nurturing and integrative perspective to corporate coaching and youth education, areas often dominated by more transactional approaches? What has been the most significant barrier to getting traditional industries to embrace this method?

My health and wellness ministry/adventure intertwines with my professional and personal life. Therefore, my training and experiences (unforeseen circumstances, disappointment, successes, failures, victories, health challenges, and the loss of loved ones through death) have uniquely nurtured and integrated my lifestyle perspective, helping me “simply be the best me possible” despite life’s curve balls and accomplishments. This is what motivates and inspires me to step into corporate coaching and youth education. Step into the corporate coaching and youth education areas. The significant barrier in getting traditional industries to embrace this method would be me. Why? I have control over my own choices; I can either hold onto my faith and determination or allow others’ negativity to hinder me.

In your “Wellness Made Clear” programs, you aim to build self-efficacy in a generation struggling
with self-worth. How does your journey as a woman who has continuously overcome professional and personal hurdles directly shape the curriculum, helping young people, especially young women, find their own strength and purpose?

Through God’s grace and mercy, I can proclaim visually that all things are possible through faith and hard work once you walk in self-acceptance. This requires you to recognize your strengths and weaknesses, likes and dislikes, your personality and physical appearance, your family attachment through genes and tradition, and your personal behavior patterns. Knowing who and whose you are allows you to “simply be the best me possible”.

The wellness industry often prizes specialization, yet you lead a highly diverse service portfolio. From a leadership standpoint, what are the advantages and disadvantages of this integrated approach, and how does your management style, perhaps informed by a more collaborative feminine leadership model, ensure excellence across such different domains?

My management style reminds me not to take things personally. This permits me to interact with others in a nonjudgmental atmosphere. Interacting in an integrated approach will operate in an advantage-and-disadvantage arena; however, it is my personal choice to accept the platform choices and to apply my expertise when appropriate.

As a female founder who has built a business partnership with your husband, what unique dynamics have you navigated? How has this experience of shared leadership strengthened your voice and authority as a woman at the helm, and what advice would you give to other women considering a similar path?

All things are possible. The couple striving to work in unity must share the same faith-based values, honor, and respect for each other, and be determined not to let any person, place, or thing destroy their love and commitment to God, themselves, each other, and their business dream. The two must walk, play, work, and enjoy life in harmony. When the winds of doubt, disbelief, and frustration blow, they collectively hold on to their faith anchor, love, and determination.

Your work merges wellness with inspirational music, touching on the spiritual and emotional. In a world increasingly focused on metrics and data, how does leading with a purpose that serves the human spirit first allow you to create a deeper, more lasting impact that perhaps a more conventional, profit-only leadership model would miss?

Merging wellness with inspirational music allows our clients to live a lifestyle with purpose, grounded in self-confidence, self-respect, self-worth, and self-value. What do I mean? By operating with a human spirit awareness, one recognition change is ongoing, requiring adjustment amid the increasing focus on metrics and data. On the other hand, walking in inner peace allows you to go with the flow, recognize your limitations, and exercise decision-making freedom.

What does the future hold for your company and its customers? Are exciting things on the way?

The future holds the opportunity to learn, grow, and flow within the wellness industry, teaching, educating, and inspiring women to “simply be the best me possible” in their personal and professional lives.

“Through God’s grace and mercy, I can proclaim visually that all things are possible through faith and hard work.”
