Interview Highlights
Q. Tell us what inspired the creation of illumisoft.
illumisoft was inspired mainly out of the desire to give back to the community. Having noticed a gap between the services needed in the health care industry and the number of vendors available to provide those services, we truly wanted to help. Healthcare and healthcare research are important to all of us. Nothing has shown us this more than the COVID-19 pandemic. We love giving back to the world by helping those in the pursuit of providing better care and increasing the ease of access to quality healthcare for everyone.
Q. Why did illumisoft choose to serve the healthcare industry? And what does the company bring to the table, and how is it revolutionizing the industry?
The cost of healthcare is skyrocketing while the quality of service, from the patient's perspective, is plummeting. The cost itself prevents many from even seeking help. The people at illumisoft have worked in other industries, but nothing feels as good as completing a project and seeing it immediately increase the quality of service for a patient. Or from seeing a parent's face light up when talking about their son or daughter's ability to control their medications because of the app we created. What illumisoft brings to the table is over 60 years of combined healthcare information technology experience. We know where the bottlenecks and potholes are in healthcare, and we deliver modern solutions using security, best practices, and cloud computing as fundamentals.
Q. How does illumisoft impact patients in general?
We make sure that everything we do that has an impact on the patient is done the way that we would want it done were in the patient's shoes. We're all patients. We're all consumers of healthcare and therapeutic services. As representatives of that group, we make sure that we reduce the effort on the patient's part while not increasing the effort on the provider's part. We make sure that data flows without the risk of loss or theft. We make sure that systems are designed so that they can be easily and inexpensively maintained over time as possible. We do all this because we know that every aspect of the healthcare business affects the end patient. Let's make it easy on everyone that provides healthcare to provide great service that is personalized and able to be delivered with love.
Q. ‘From HIPAA compliant secure messaging solutions to remote patient monitoring systems, we can build anything so long as it fulfills our hearts and stimulates our minds.’ Splendid. Would you like to elaborate on this a bit more?
I suppose it means that we believe we truly can build anything. We believe technology is moving at such a rapid pace that what is possible is becoming infinite compared to what we're actually able to implement. So, we can do a lot of things that nobody's thought of doing yet. When they do, we know how to put the ideas together and make them work. For instance, some of the areas that I think we're going to see a vast increase in development include augmented reality and other visualization tools. We're going to see those both for patients to help them recover more rapidly, but we're also going to see them as tools for physicians and surgeons to help them diagnose more accurately and operate more consistently.
Q. That's not all illumisoft does. What are its other focus areas?
We're focused on two areas; one is providing technology services like application integration, systems integration, and writing mobile apps. Another is by providing a product or service. We have built a product that measures head impact, and we've also written a mHealth solution that we're providing through a SaaS model.
Q. Where do you stand as a company in the current market landscape? And how do you plan to combat your competition?
We are more of a boutique agency that provides business and project management consulting services. Our experience working in the healthcare market and our strong network of resources put us in a great position to survive. The trick, though, we think, is providing the kind of quality service that people can never again do without.
Besides, one of the biggest challenges for hospitals and ironically, one of the ways through those challenges is the implementation of FHIR. FHIR allows for the integration of a variety of systems with greater ease and consistency. For a hospital, implementation of FHIR could be dozens of potential upsides, including better data aggregation, increased efficiency, and widespread cost identification and savings.
Q. What plans for transformation are you pursuing to remain relevant now and in the future?
As I mentioned earlier, we have built a couple of products. One is an actual device that measures directional impact along with the software to record that impact. The other is a software product that we're offering to promote mobile health or mHealth. We believe in a future that makes most of the healthcare easier for people to access remotely.
