In conversation with Brian Tompkins, Vice President of Sales, Snom Americas

Q. As a journalist, I find Snom Americas quite striking. From the emotional branding standpoint, it has that appeal. How did you come up with the brand name? And please brief us about the history so far.

Christian Stredicke and Nicolas-Peter Pohland, two former computer scientists at the Technical University of Berlin, founded Snom in 1997 in Berlin, Germany. The Snom 100 model was the first VoIP telephone the company produced when it started out in 1999. By the year 2000, the business had its sights set on creating components that could be used with enterprise communication systems. The company focused on stand-alone VoIP phones that are compatible across standards-based platforms from many manufacturers rather than selling a single telephony platform solution. This was made possible with the introduction of the Session Initiation Protocol (SIP). In 2006, Snom opened an office in North Andover, Massachusetts, to enter the North American market. The distributor’s networks include companies in EMEA, the CIS region, North America and Australia. In late 2016, Snom Technology AG was acquired by VTech Holdings Limited.

Q. ‘Snom offers a broad selection of VoIP solutions to meet the unique needs of your thriving business.’ This sounds promising. Can you elaborate on this a bit more?

Snom designs and manufactures professional and enterprise VoIP telephones. Snom produces robust, high-quality, feature-rich business telephones designed exclusively for the trained and certified professional IT and PBX installer. They are universally compatible with the leading PBX platforms. Products developed for everyday business require simple operating concepts. At Snom, we analyze and evaluate the human, technological and economic factors that are relevant to a product’s success – all from our customer’s viewpoint. Snom VoIP solutions include desk phones, mobile telephony, and conferencing.

Q. What groundbreaking and proactive methodology does your company implement to meet its clients’ expectations?

Snom has adapted too many premium and cutting-edge technologies over the years. In addition, Snom utilizes a wide range of testing tools and software in designing our IP telephones, ensuring we deliver the best quality to our customers according to the latest requirements of modern telecommunication.

We value our German heritage. We have improved audio quality over the years by combining our acoustic experience and VoIP signaling know-how with the latest DSP algorithms, our high- resolution color displays are made from thin film transistor liquid crystal displays (TFT LCD) for improved features such as pixel addressability and contrast values. As a result, many Snom customers have been using our products continuously for more than five years without reporting any display fading.

Q. What makes your products and services trustworthy? What makes your clients come back to you again and again?

Brian Tompkins, Vice President of Sales, Snom Americas has been working in the North American communications industry for over 30 years. For the past 10 years, Brian has led the USA VTech retail sales, managing sales strategies and negotiations with top partners such as Walmart, Target, Best Buy, and Amazon. Brian has recently been given the added responsibility of managing the Business Telephony and Hospitality sales teams and is excited about driving market share with the Snom Americas brand. Brian holds a BBA in Marketing and an Executive MBA from the University of Texas at Arlington.
