In conversation with Wyatt Meek, Chief Commercial Officer of AiRISTA

AiRISTA has been recognized as a Leader in Gartner’s Magic Quadrant for Indoor Location Services for three consecutive years. What key factors do you believe have contributed to this consistent recognition?

Our leadership position reflects a commitment to innovation, customer-centric development, and real-world performance. We’ve consistently delivered solutions that are not only technologically advanced—like our AI trained algorithm and patented tag technology—but also scalable, secure, and aligned with customer needs to deliver optimized workflows for specific use cases. Our integration with leading platforms like HPE, Cisco, and Juniper plus our ability to deliver ROI through flexible deployments have made us a trusted partner across industries.

The Sofia platform has evolved significantly, with version 7.2 introducing features like advanced asset management and intuitive partner integrations. How do these enhancements align with the current demands of enterprise clients?

The launch of Sofia 7.2 meets the evolving needs of enterprise clients through expanded integration, deeper insights, and enhanced usability. We’ve added support for new location listeners from the top WLAN manufacturers, ensuring organizations can leverage their existing infrastructure and decrease time to value. The platform has supported GPS, BLE, and 2.4GHz WiFi tags, and in the latest version we now support 5GHz WiFi tags as well, which is important since many customers are looking to utilize 5GHz WiFi for critical devices.

Perhaps the most important enhancements for our enterprise clients are new capabilities to aid in operational decision-making. We’ve made it extremely easy to integrate with 3rd party systems via MQTT and APIs, and we recently had customers use our new capabilities to integrate with EHRs and infusion pump systems in record time. From a user experience standpoint, multiple language support and UI refinements, such as optimized table layouts and updated map views, further enhance platform accessibility and navigation. These enhancements ensure Sofia remains a versatile and forward-looking RTLS platform for companies worldwide.

AiRISTA’s approach to AI combines native technology with a framework for integrating third-party AI engines. How does this strategy enhance the capabilities of the Sofia platform?

By blending our proprietary AI capabilities with an open integration framework, the Sofia platform can adapt to customer-specific requirements and leverage the best technologies. This flexibility allows clients to easily combine accurate location insights with additional business context to unlock powerful automation and operational insights with predictive analytics, anomaly detection, and machine learning models tailored to their industry.

The recent introduction of temperature monitoring functions in Sofia 7.2 aims to support regulatory compliance. How critical is this feature for industries like healthcare and logistics?

We supported temperature monitoring in previous versions, which met the regulatory standards for many industries. What’s new is enhanced reporting, which is now native in Sofia and gives users greater control in maintaining and showing compliance with FDA, CDC, and other regulatory requirement guidelines, while also reducing the burden on staff and minimizing product loss.

AiRISTA’s RTLS solutions are utilized across various sectors, including healthcare, industrial, and hospitality. How does the company tailor its offerings to meet the unique needs of these diverse industries?

Location insights are valuable across all industries, but business needs can vary widely—even within the same sector. For example, staff safety is critical in healthcare, mining, education, and hospitality. In high-risk environments like mining or certain hospital departments, our automated “man down” feature is essential. In schools or busy hospital areas, tags can notify nearby staff directly, enabling faster response.

Asset tracking also spans industries, but requirements differ. In healthcare, users often need additional context—such as whether equipment is clean or in use. That’s why our platform is built for flexibility. We tailor each deployment with configurable workflows, specialized tag types, and seamless integration with existing systems.

The acquisition of Ekahau RTLS led to the development of the Sofia platform. What lessons from Ekahau’s legacy have been integrated into Sofia’s design and functionality?

Ekahau’s strengths in location precision, Wi-Fi infrastructure integration, and robust alerting laid a strong foundation. With Sofia, we’ve expanded that legacy by adding AI-driven insights, BLE support, cloud and hybrid deployment options, and a more user-centric interface. The result is a modern, future-ready RTLS platform that continues Ekahau’s tradition of excellence with next-generation enhancements.

With the increasing importance of indoor location services, how does AiRISTA ensure data privacy and security within its RTLS deployments?

We take data security very seriously. Our platform adheres to industry best practices for encryption, user authentication, and access controls. We also support role-based access, audit logging, and integration with enterprise identity systems. For customers that have concerns about a public cloud approach, such as certain government agencies, we do offer on-premise deployments. Whether on-premises or in the cloud, our deployments are designed to meet the strictest privacy and compliance requirements.

Looking ahead, what are AiRISTA’s strategic priorities for innovation and growth in the RTLS market over the next few years?

The greatest impediment to RTLS expansion has been the need for dedicated infrastructure to achieve reliable accuracy, since dedicated infrastructure adds cost and time.  Our approach, which leverages unique integrations with WLAN manufacturers, new gateways for augmentation, and our AI trained model, addresses this impediment today. We’re definitely not sitting on our laurels though and are working on some new technologies directly and with partners that will provide superior accuracy and make deployment and integration with 3rd party applications even easier for our customers. It’s an exciting time at AiRISTA!
