According to a recent forecast by Gartner, by 2025, the Hyperautomation software market will reach a market value of nearly $860 billion worldwide, with a Compound Annual Growth Rate of 12.3%. In this scenario, the impact of IDP platforms, capable of integrating hybrid AI approaches, based on computer vision, NLP, knowledge representation, rule-based methods, and other AI technologies, will be massive.

These platforms will accelerate digital transformation across most verticals, with the highest adoption rates in industries like financial services (banking, insurance, investors, etc.), telecommunications, media, utilities, manufacturing, health care, pharma and services.

With that said, we are thrilled to present altilia.ai—an intelligent automation company. It provides composite AI solutions to automate business processes and turn data into insights. It serves clients from around the world.

Altilia was founded in 2010.

The Silicon Review reached out to Altilia’s Rende headquarters and spoke with Massimo Ruffolo, who serves as the company’s Chief Executive Officer. Here’s what he said.

Interview Highlights

Q. How does Altilia democratize the use of AI and help enterprises automate document-intensive business processes?

Altilia.ai is contributing to the democratization of AI in (at least) two ways: on one hand by helping all users (from all backgrounds) and stakeholders to understand and leverage AI models, document processing capabilities, and RPA throughout organizations; on the other by helping all organizations, including SMEs to reap the benefits of AI and Hyperautomation.

These objectives are pursued in several ways: For starters, Altilia's solution is equipped with low-code/no-code interfaces to help all users understand and utilize all the available tools to automate document-based business processes and transform data into actionable insights, even without a technical background. Additionally, our platform handles all MLOps and the back-end infrastructure supports the training and running of ML algorithms in the background, without users having to worry about it. This leads to a more accessible, user-friendly, and seamless experience.

The Altilia platform provides off-the-the-shelf workflow templates that users can utilize to automate and streamline document-intensive processes that normally require human understanding and contextualization capabilities. Users can select a workflow template; configure workflow parameters and input/output connectors; save workflow configurations or design a new workflow from scratch by selecting, combining, and configuring connectors, skills, and actions.

The platform also provides pre-trained ML models that users can select and fine-tune to adapt for their specific use case. The fine-tuning is handheld by a dedicated no-code annotation interface to intake documents and manually or automatically label them: this allows users to provide a training set of labeled examples to increase the accuracy of ML models. Additionally, the platform provides a Human-In-The-Loop review functionality for data quality check: this enables continuous learning, improving models' interpretability and explainability, and further optimizing the model's accuracy and performance.

The platform provides tools to simplify workflow configuration and deployability. By offering pre-built input and output connectors, users can easily set up document intaking and output data exporting to external applications and systems across the organization, including third-party RPA tools, CMS, ERP, CRM, and ECM systems. It's also possible to configure custom connectors using REST APIs.

Q. What can you tell us about your no-code SaaS-based platform, and how does it enable users?

The Altilia Intelligent Automation Platform is a comprehensive solution that gives enterprises the tools they need to build AI models and seamlessly automate all of their most difficult document-intensive processes. Our platform enables enterprises to eliminate manual, repetitive processes, reducing mistakes and giving teams more time to focus on higher-value priorities. Altilia Intelligent Automation Platform can be integrated with third-party RPA tools or run as a standalone solution that provides all the features needed to automate document-intensive processes interoperating with customers’ CRM, ERP, ECM technologies, and custom applications.

The platform provides value to its customers with three core modules families:

The Teach modules provide customers with document annotation capabilities and pre-trained models that make it easy to input real-world datasets and create custom models to address specific, document-intensive processing tasks. These modules consist of a user-friendly annotation tool to ingest documents (of any type and format) and annotate them by labels that represent concepts and/or attributes to recognize within documents, using a point-and-click visual labeling interface. Users have access to a library of out-of-the-box pre-trained models and algorithms that can be trained and fine-tuned with their own annotated datasets. Lastly, this module allows users to combine multiple custom AI models, data functions, and knowledge-graph capabilities to create sophisticated AI skills, capable of processing all contents and components from documents regardless of format complexity or layout.

The Automate modules allow streamlining document processing by workflows that use input and output connectors to interoperate with external applications and proprietary customer solutions to integrate AI/ML models into them. These modules make use of continuous training and model explainability. With these modules, users can easily create and design automated workflows that streamline complex document-intensive processes by combining AI skills, actions, and connectors. Subsequently, they can conduct complete reviews and validation of all data, objects, concepts, and other information extracted from documents to provide models with feedback, enabling a continuous training loop. This enhances data quality, maximizes capabilities, and provides AI model explainability. Lastly, the module provides pre-built input and output connectors to facilitate data exchange between any internal and external source across the organization, including RPA, CMS, ERP, CRM ECM systems, and even with custom-built internal tools.

The Understand modules allow users to extract meaningful value from all their document data, giving them insights to empower intelligent decision-making. All the data our platform intakes is organized and stored as a multi-structured knowledge base to simplify data conceptualization and indexing. With an advanced semantic search engine that leverages both full text and neural search, users can easily access, search and sort all information in a readable format. They can apply multi-faceted search to all types of documents, apply filters on metadata produced by machine learning algorithms, and use search by similarity and question answering. Users can also utilize a conversational decision intelligence tool to understand documents and data and create multi-dimensional reports by using natural language queries.

Q. Will Altilia be expanding, bringing on any new products or services that we should be aware of?

Altilia will launch a new website in September, alongside the new blog focused on AI, Intelligent Process Automation, Hyperautomation, and Intelligent Document Processing (IDP) technologies and business applications.

With the launch of the new website, Altilia is aiming to extend its Software-as-a-Service model and promote the emergence of a community of interest on the issues of AI applied to IDP and Decision Intelligence.

Further down the line, the website will also host the portal to access the Altilia Intelligent Automation Platform in SaaS / IPaaS format. Users will be able to register for a free trial and to utilize selected AI training and automation modules tailored to SMEs' business needs.

After obtaining a €3 million investment round from CDP Venture Capital last year, Altilia is preparing a business internationalization campaign, to become an IDP and Hyperautomation reference point in North America, the UK, and throughout Western Europe, building upon its already established visibility and reputation.

Soon, Altilia will also launch the Altilia Marketplace which will enable anyone to develop AI models and workflow templates and sell them to all those who need specific robots to automate processes involving complex document processing.

Q. How do you see Altilia changing in five years, and how do you see yourself creating that change?

Altilia aims at becoming a leader in the IDP area. We will expand our operations internationally to multiple geographies. Our scope is to democratise AI enabling people working in organisations of any size and industry to develop AI models for document and text processing as they already do with spreadsheets.

Our goal is to become worldwide promoters of AI-based digital transformation. We will achieve this goal by contributing to the simplification of the activities needed to train AI models and put them into production.
