Innovative Companies to Watch 2026

Kevin Harmon, Brisa International LLC Founder and CEO: “Our patented EcoTech Complex technology employs special algae harvesting and processing systems that will work in any climate, from the hottest to the coldest around the world with the best economics.”

Most environmental technology companies start with a single problem. Brisa International LLC started with a systems view of the world. Founded in 2009 by Kevin Harmon, Brisa was built by a group of top scientists and engineers who believed the environmental crisis was not a lack of technology, but a lack of integration. Power plants, wastewater facilities, industrial processors, and agricultural systems all operate in silos. Each optimizes for one output while treating everything else as waste.

Brisa’s premise is simple but disruptive: those waste streams are not liabilities. They are raw materials.

From offices across the United States and global hubs in Singapore, Manila, and Dubai, Brisa works with power plants, industrial facilities, municipalities, and agricultural processors to redesign how large systems function. The goal is not marginal efficiency gains, but structural change that turns emissions, sludge, wastewater and solid waste into energy, fuel, fertilizers, and long-term economic value.

At the center of this effort is Kevin Harmon, a veteran environmental scientist and engineering systems inventor who has led teams responsible for billions of dollars in infrastructure solutions. Over the last three decades, Harmon has completed more than 600 environmental chemistry remediation projects across water, air, and land in the United States alone. He is also a prolific inventor, writer, and public speaker, with one of the most expansive patent portfolios in modern environmental technology.
From Consulting to Breakthrough Platforms

Brisa began as a broad-based consulting firm. Early work focused on equipping renewable energy projects such as solar, wind, and waste-to-energy facilities with better technology choices and smarter planning frameworks.

That consulting DNA never left. What changed was scale.

Over years of research and development, Brisa’s team built a portfolio of more than 360 inventions, protected by patents spanning 127 countries. Those inventions became the foundation for two core technology platforms that now define the company: the EcoTech Complex and the Brisa Biosolids Processing system, known as BBP.

Both platforms reflect Brisa’s original mindset. Environmental impact and profitability are not trade-offs. They are complementary design constraints that must be solved together.

The EcoTech Complex: Turning Silos into Symbiotic Systems

The EcoTech Complex is Brisa’s most ambitious idea. Instead of treating power generation, wastewater treatment, desalination materials processing, emissions control, and waste management as separate facilities, EcoTech integrates them into a single, interconnected infrastructure platform.

What this really means is that waste from one system becomes the feedstock for another.

Carbon dioxide from a power plant stack feeds algae growth. Heat from industrial processes supports water treatment and biofuel processing. Organic waste streams become inputs for fuel and fertilizer production. Across the platform, hundreds of engineered interconnections create efficiencies that isolated systems can never achieve.

For large waste producers, the implications are profound. Power plants, wastewater treatment facilities, solid waste generators, and agricultural processors can be redesigned to extract value from outputs that were previously expensive problems. Instead of paying to dispose of waste and offset emissions, operators generate revenue streams from the same materials.

The international community has taken notice. The EcoTech Complex has been recognized by the United Nations, the World Bank, and global forums including Davos and Davos in the Desert as a leading breakthrough in sustainable infrastructure.

Algae at Industrial Scale

One of the most powerful components of the EcoTech Complex is Brisa’s proprietary algae technology.

Algae is not new to sustainability conversations. What is new is making it work reliably, economically, and at industrial scale.

Under Brisa’s platform, algae biomass can double roughly every two hours. That growth rate allows for carbon capture efficiencies that are orders of magnitude higher than traditional mechanical systems. Brisa’s algae systems are reported to be up to 400 times more efficient than trees at removing carbon dioxide, while simultaneously producing valuable outputs.

The system can yield thousands of liters of biofuel daily, alongside many other algae-derived products. These are not experimental fuels. Brisa focuses on high-quality, drop-in biofuels that integrate into existing energy infrastructure.

Equally important, the algae systems do more than capture CO2. They absorb other harmful emissions such as nitrogen oxides, sulfur oxides, and particulates. The result is comprehensive remediation of stack gases that addresses both global carbon goals and local air quality concerns.

Reimagining Fossil Fuel Power Plants

Perhaps the most controversial claim Brisa makes is that fossil fuel power plants do not have to be the environmental villains they are often portrayed as.

Through the EcoTech Complex, Brisa captures emissions directly from power plant exhaust streams and routes them into algae-based remediation systems. Photosynthesis becomes a high-speed industrial process, stripping carbon and pollutants from exhaust gases before they enter the atmosphere.

This approach does not rely on speculative carbon capture and storage models that require long-term underground sequestration. Instead, captured carbon is converted into biomass and downstream products with immediate economic value.

For plant operators, this changes the conversation. Compliance costs become revenue opportunities. Carbon reduction targets become operational improvements rather than regulatory burdens.

The BBP System: A New Paradigm for Wet Waste

If the EcoTech Complex is about integration, the Brisa Biosolids Processing system is about speed and completeness.

Traditional anaerobic digestion has long been used to process wastewater sludge and wet organic waste. The problem is efficiency. Digestion takes weeks, produces limited biogas, and leaves behind large volumes of residual waste that still require disposal.

BBP works differently.

The system uses proprietary chemistry to recreate the geochemical conditions that form oil underground, but it does so in minutes rather than weeks. Instead of relying on slow biological processes, BBP converts 100 percent of wet organic waste into valuable products.

This includes wastewater sludge, algae, fats and oils, and agricultural residues. There is no leftover waste stream. No secondary disposal problem.

Just as importantly, BBP avoids the massive energy costs typically required to dry wet waste before processing. By bypassing that step entirely, the system becomes not just efficient, but profitable.

In practical terms, BBP is up to eight times more effective than anaerobic digestion in its ability to convert wet wastes into value. For municipalities and industrial operators facing rising disposal costs and tightening regulations, that difference is transformative.

Changing the Economics of Environmental Remediation

For decades, environmental remediation has been framed as a cost center. Industries tolerated pollution because their core products justified the trade-off.

Brisa challenges that logic at its foundation.

Cement plants focused on cement. Farms focused on food. Power plants focused on electricity. Everything else was externalized. Emissions, waste, and carbon footprints were accepted as unavoidable side effects.

Brisa designs systems where those side effects become co-products.

Biochar, fertilizers, biofuels, and other materials generated from waste streams create new revenue lines while reducing environmental impact. Carbon reduction no longer competes with profitability. It enhances it.

This shift in thinking is why Brisa has been invited to present at the United Nations General Assembly as one of the world’s leading sustainable technology companies. The appeal is not just environmental. It is economic realism at industrial scale.

Built for Global Conditions

Brisa’s projects span the Middle East, Asia, the Caribbean, and North America. That geographic reach demands adaptability.

The EcoTech Complex incorporates innovative heating and cooling systems, specilized growth methods, AI-driven system optimization controls, along with breakthrough algae harvesting and processing technologies that perform well, even in extreme climates. From desert heat to cold regions, systems are engineered for local conditions without sacrificing economics.

The BBP system is equally adaptable. Because it relies on chemical rather than biological processes, it can be tuned to different waste compositions and site requirements with relative ease.

This flexibility allows Brisa to deploy consistently optimal performance across regions with vastly different environmental and regulatory realities.

What Comes Next

Brisa International is not standing still.

According to Harmon, new applications are being developed continuously. With more than 30 years of environmental science and engineering experience feeding into ongoing research, the company is exploring new waste streams and new forms of biofuel and material recovery that did not previously exist.

For Brisa’s customers, the future looks less like compliance and more like opportunity. Waste becomes a resource. Emissions become inputs. Infrastructure becomes adaptive rather than static.

In a world struggling to reconcile industrial growth with environmental responsibility, Brisa International LLC offers a different path forward. Not by asking industry to shrink, but by asking it to think more intelligently about what it already produces.

And in that reframing lies the company’s real breakthrough.
