“Powered by a patented AI underwater camera, MYLO is capable of identifying potential instances of drowning.”

Drowning is the leading cause of death for children under the age of five and the second leading cause of unintentional injury-related fatalities for children under the age of 14.

According to Dr. Tamar Avraham, who is the Chief Technology Officer and a co-founder at Coral Smart Pool, the application of AI and computer vision that enhances the safety of vehicles on roads can also be extended underwater to address the global issue of drowning. Her motivation for establishing the company was centered around diminishing instances of drowning through an innovative and transformative technology that employs AI and computer vision beneath the water's surface, enabling the identification of drowning incidents and ultimately rescuing lives. Dr. Avraham is the mind behind the development of Coral Smart Pool drowning detection technology.

Coral Smart Pool is a pioneer of award-winning computer vision and machine learning technology for monitoring pool activity. The company is leading the way in developing intelligent, intuitive, consumer-friendly solutions for residential and commercial pools. It serves clients globally.

Coral Smart was founded in 2018 and is headquartered in Binyamina, Israel.

Interview Highlights

Q. As a provider of drowning detection systems for residential and commercial pools, what are Coral Smart Pool’s key focus areas?

Our key objective revolves around creating solutions that not only amplify the safety of pool activities but also elevate the overall enjoyment. Our inaugural product, MYLO, serves as the world's first virtual lifeguard system, and it serves as a foundation upon which we can integrate numerous applications and solutions. In the upcoming year, we are planning several upgrades for MYLO in addition to its existing capability to detect drowning incidents and save lives. Subsequent to this, it will gain the ability to assess water quality and provide solutions. This is significant as water quality and clarity pose notable health and safety concerns. Once MYLO has comprehensively addressed safety considerations, we will incorporate functionalities to oversee pool cleaning and maintenance, thereby reducing maintenance expenses and management time.

Q. Can you explain what Differentiates MYLO from other Pool Safety Equipment, and how MYLO with its AI creates a new protection layer that was never available before?

The majority of safety equipment and products currently present on the market are highly effective in preventing unauthorized access to a pool. These include items like fences, pool covers, and technological devices such as pool alarms, which notify users when someone enters the pool area. However, these solutions only function during periods when the pool is not in use. Regrettably, statistics indicate that 88% of drowning incidents occur when the pool is actively being used and accessible. During these times, the existing safety products are rendered ineffective since they are deactivated. This is where MYLO distinguishes itself from other options.

Unlike its counterparts, MYLO offers comprehensive protection for both inactive and active pool states. It not only safeguards the pool during periods of inactivity but also sends alerts when the pool becomes active. The most noteworthy aspect of MYLO's functionality is its continuous monitoring throughout the pool's active usage, which introduces an unprecedented layer of protection. Powered by a patented AI underwater camera, MYLO is capable of identifying potential instances of drowning and subsequently transmitting a series of escalating alarms through mobile devices and home alarm systems.

Q. No doubt Coral Smart Pool is charting new territories in this segment. Given how frequently circumstances change, what plans for transformation are you pursuing to remain relevant now and in the future?

Being at the forefront of AI underwater technology, Coral Smart Pool goes the extra mile to refine data and algorithms, aiming to elevate the safety and intelligence of swimming pools. Through the utilization of our advanced deep neural network and meticulously crafted algorithms, we have ventured into providing maintenance solutions for both residential and commercial pools, as mentioned above. Our innovative MYLO platform, safeguarded by intellectual property rights, seamlessly combines exclusive software with an on-site presence within the pool. This integration aims not only to elevate safety but also to optimize various pool management aspects, including energy optimization, water health management, and pool cleaning activity management. Needless to say, the MYLO platform is poised to serve as the gateway to the smart pool world, offering multiple applications for all aspects of pool management, as well as a variety of fun pool activities to enhance the overall user experience.

Q. What commercial pool solutions do you offer?

Our MYLO PRO solution is specifically designed for the needs of commercial pool owners. This innovative solution enables the installation of MYLO in their respective pools, facilitating a centralized pool control dashboard for multiple pools – an all-inclusive platform solution requiring minimal infrastructure investment. This platform seamlessly integrates all devices, linking them to lifeguard smart watches, thereby enhancing their ability to safeguard the pool area. This integration strives to establish the utmost level of pool protection. Currently, we have successfully implemented this solution in numerous hotels and commercial pools around the world.
