Smartest Companies of the Year 2026

David Reilly, PrintMail Vice President of Technology and Operations: “We’ve reinvented our production platform several times: laser to high-speed inkjet, print-only to integrated print and digital delivery, batch processing to real-time tracking and API-level integration. What hasn’t changed is the founding instinct to watch where technology creates a service gap and move early.”

Founded in 1993 by Kevin Reilly, PrintMail was established on a simple but forward-looking belief that would prove transformative for community financial institutions. As personal computers and laser printers began reshaping business operations, Kevin recognized that while technology was becoming more accessible, producing high-quality, secure, and compliant customer communications remained an expensive and resource-intensive challenge for community banks. Most institutions could not justify the significant investment required to build and maintain sophisticated in-house document production capabilities, especially when accuracy, security, and regulatory compliance were non-negotiable. Seeing an opportunity to bridge that gap, he created PrintMail as a specialized document delivery partner capable of delivering better quality, greater efficiency, and lower operational costs than most banks could achieve independently. More than three decades later, that original vision continues to define the company under the leadership of CEO Keith Reilly. Headquartered in Newtown, Pennsylvania, with an additional production facility in Knoxville, Tennessee, PrintMail has evolved into a trusted provider of secure print and digital communication solutions for community banks and credit unions across the United States. By focusing exclusively on the financial services industry, the company has built deep expertise in managing highly sensitive customer communications, enabling financial institutions to dedicate their resources to strengthening customer relationships while relying on PrintMail to handle mission-critical document delivery with precision and consistency.

Today, PrintMail provides a comprehensive suite of document production and delivery services that span the complete communication lifecycle, ensuring every stage is managed with security, efficiency, and regulatory compliance at its core. The company securely receives data from clients’ core banking systems before transforming it into professionally composed statements, notices, disclosures, tax forms, and other essential financial documents that are produced on advanced high-speed inkjet printing platforms and delivered through reliable mailing services. Complementing its physical mail capabilities, PrintMail also offers robust electronic statement solutions that provide customers with convenient digital access while maintaining the same rigorous standards for accuracy and compliance. Every process, from secure data transfer and document composition to printing, mailing, electronic delivery, and tracking, is designed to meet the demanding regulatory requirements of the banking industry, making compliance an integral part of operations rather than an afterthought. This specialized approach has enabled PrintMail to build long-standing relationships with respected financial institutions, including Stock Yards Bank and Trust, Fulton Bank, and Civista Bank, each of which depends on the company to manage critical customer communications without compromise. Through decades of continuous innovation, operational discipline, and an unwavering commitment to protecting sensitive financial information, PrintMail has established itself as a dependable partner that empowers community banks and credit unions to streamline document management, enhance customer engagement, reduce operational complexity, and maintain the trust that lies at the heart of every financial relationship.

In conversation with David Reilly, Vice President of Technology and Operations of PrintMail

You deliver over 99.99% of jobs accurately and on time with a 20% average cost savings. What is the ‘secret sauce’ in your process that makes your operation so remarkably intelligent?

There’s no single trick. It’s layered discipline. Every job passes through automated integrity checks that verify piece-level counts from data receipt through mail induction, and then human quality control inspectors review the physical output. We track every document, so if something is off, we often know before the client does. On the cost side, our production facilities in Pennsylvania and Tennessee let us optimize postal logistics and provide built-in redundancy.

You integrate with over 50 tech platforms, including complex bank core systems. How does this deep technical expertise make you a smarter choice for regulated industries?

Core system integration is where document delivery projects live or die. We’ve built and maintained integrations with the platforms our clients actually run, including Jack Henry, Fiserv, FIS, Q2, and most every other. That matters for two reasons. First, implementation risk drops dramatically when your vendor has already solved your data format. Second, the IT team at a bank or credit union doesn’t want to be a translator between their core and their print vendor. We speak their systems natively, which shortens conversions and eliminates a whole category of errors.

Your security posture includes SOC 2 Type I & II certification, personal quality control inspectors, and job tracking technology. How do you intelligently safeguard data without slowing down delivery?

Security and speed are only in tension if security is an afterthought. We designed our environment so that protection is the default path, not a detour. Data arrives through secure, encrypted transfer channels, moves through controlled production environments, and is tracked at the piece level from file receipt to the mail stream. Our SOC 2 Type I and II certifications mean an independent auditor has verified those controls operate continuously, not just on paper. Because the controls are embedded in the workflow, our clients get bank-grade security at production speed. They never have to choose between the two.

You have served over 260 satisfied customers nationwide, including banks, credit unions, and insurance companies. How does your team’s intelligence grow and adapt by serving such a diverse range of regulated industries?

Every institution teaches us something. A credit union’s member communications, a community bank’s commercial statements, and an insurance company’s policy notices each have distinct regulatory and formatting demands, and lessons from one segment consistently strengthen the others. Because we’re family-owned and our team has long tenure, that knowledge compounds instead of walking out the door. When a new client brings us an unusual requirement, the odds are high we’ve solved something like it before. That accumulated pattern recognition is a real competitive asset, and it’s one you can only build by staying focused on regulated industries for decades.

You were founded in 1993 by seeing an opportunity with PCs and laser printers. How has the company’s “entrepreneurial intelligence” kept it innovative and relevant through three decades of technological change?

We’ve reinvented our production platform several times: laser to high-speed inkjet, print-only to integrated print and digital delivery, batch processing to real-time tracking and API-level integration. What hasn’t changed is the founding instinct to watch where technology creates a service gap and move early. Electronic statements are a good example. Rather than treating digital as a threat to our print business, we built eStatement delivery as a complement, because our clients’ account holders wanted choice. Being family-owned helps here. We can invest in the next decade without pressure to optimize for the next quarter.

What does the future hold for your company and its customers? Are exciting things on the way?

We’re continuing to deepen our integration ecosystem so that joining PrintMail feels less like a vendor conversion and more like flipping a switch, and we’re expanding the intelligence in our tracking and reporting so clients have complete visibility into every communication. We also see growing demand from adjacent regulated sectors that face the same accuracy and compliance stakes as banking. The constant will be what it’s been since 1993: our clients’ most critical documents, delivered right, every time.
