HotelREZ Gives Independent Hotels the Global Distribution Muscle That Chains Take for Granted

An independent hotel operating in a secondary market faces a structural disadvantage that has nothing to do with quality. A branded property down the street appears inside every major distribution channel by default. Its rates populate travel agency terminals automatically. Its corporate RFP submissions reach procurement teams as a matter of course. The independent property, however well run, is invisible to a global demand ecosystem that routes most of its volume through systems it cannot access without a partner. The room is competitive. The distribution is not.

HotelREZ was established in 2004 to close that gap. Founded by CEO Mark Lewis after a career at Thomas Cook and Pegasus Solutions, the company operates as a hotel representation company connecting independent properties and small groups to global distribution channels, sales networks, and demand generation infrastructure. Its portfolio spans more than 2,500 independent hotels across 100-plus countries, representing over 185,000 bookable rooms, 1,984 meeting rooms and event venues, and access to 1,538 corporate RFP bid invitations globally.

The company operates as a Global Partner of Sabre, providing a fully interfaced central reservation system connected to channel managers, revenue management systems, and property management systems through its own API layer. That technological foundation supports a service model built around dedicated account management, revenue consultancy, and sales representation across the corporate, consortia, MICE, and leisure segments. For independent hoteliers who need more than a technology platform, HotelREZ positions itself as a complete representation partner rather than a software vendor.

GDS Access as the Core Distribution Engine

HotelREZ's most consequential capability is its Global Distribution System connectivity across Sabre, Travelport's Galileo and Worldspan, and Amadeus. That access places a property's rates and availability in front of roughly 750,000 travel agents worldwide, including corporate bookers, consortia, and travel management companies that will never encounter the hotel through consumer-facing channels. The revenue implications are substantial and specific. Consortia and TMC business represents contracted, repeatable volume at negotiated rates, which stabilizes occupancy and reduces reliance on seasonal OTA traffic. HotelREZ reports that its members collectively save 17,000 individual hotel consortia membership fees by accessing this demand through a single representation relationship rather than joining each consortium independently.

Alternative Distribution and Channel Breadth

Beyond GDS, HotelREZ connects properties to Alternative Distribution Systems processing 18 billion shopping transactions monthly, alongside nearly 600 OTA and tour operator channels, meta-search platforms including Trivago, Kayak, Wego, Google, and Tripadvisor, and a dedicated MICE desk handling conferences, seminars, and event bookings. The breadth matters because distribution strategy varies by property type. A city-center boutique hotel benefits differently from a country-house retreat or a serviced apartment portfolio. Channel proliferation without centralized control produces rate parity failures and margin erosion, which is why HotelREZ pairs connectivity with a channel manager and CentralREZ central reservation system providing a single point of control across every connected source.

Direct Booking as Margin Protection

HotelREZ's REZbooker booking engine addresses the cost structure of direct versus third-party acquisition. Client feedback from properties including Anjum Hotel Makkah, Hotel Grand Chancellor, Sopwell House, and Palazzo Versace Dubai describes measurable increases in direct bookings following implementation, with the platform's integration into existing PMS environments cited as a determining factor. Direct bookings eliminate OTA commission, which for many independent properties represents the single largest variable cost in the distribution stack. Every point of direct booking share recovered reduces customer acquisition cost without requiring additional marketing spend.

Corporate RFP and MICE Demand Generation

The corporate RFP practice generates 1,550 incremental bid invitations annually across the globe, opening procurement channels that independent properties cannot access without established consortia relationships. HotelREZ's demand team works with clients including Wilde and Staycity on corporate visibility across UK and European markets. MICE representation extends the same logic into meetings, incentives, conferences, and events, connecting properties to higher-value group bookings that typically carry longer lead times and more predictable revenue than transient leisure demand.

Mark Lewis, CEO

Mark Lewis founded HotelREZ in 2004 and serves as Chief Executive Officer, having previously held roles at Thomas Cook and Pegasus Solutions. He also founded World Rainbow Hotels. Under his leadership, HotelREZ has grown into the 15th largest hotel company worldwide according to industry rankings, earned Company and CEO of the Year recognition, and expanded its Americas presence through the additions of Hoteles Misión in Mexico and senior appointments including Frank Fuentes as Senior Vice President, The Americas.

The Growth Logic of Independent Hotel Representation

HotelREZ's expansion reflects sustained demand for representation infrastructure that allows independent properties to compete at global scale without surrendering their identity. With more than 2,500 hotels in 100-plus countries, strong client retention, Sabre Global Partner status, and double-digit portfolio growth across consecutive years, the company has established itself among the hospitality sales solution providers worth watching in 2026. The commercial logic is direct: global demand flows through systems that reward scale, and representation is how independent hotels acquire it.

Mark Lewis, CEO

"An independent hotel can compete with any brand on quality. What it cannot do alone is appear inside every channel where the world's bookers look. That is what representation means, and it has to deliver revenue, not just technology."
