Innovative Companies to Watch 2026

Rich Holland, Nation Safe Drivers CEO: “We view technology as an enabler, not a replacement for human connection. Automation is most effective when it removes friction and allows people to focus on what truly requires empathy and judgment.”

For more than six decades, Nation Safe Drivers has played a steady role in supporting motorists when the unexpected interrupts their journey. What began as a focused effort to bring consistency and trust to fragmented roadside assistance and vehicle protection services has grown into a nationwide organization known for showing up when reliability matters most. Today, the company is entering a defining new chapter under the leadership of Rich Holland, who became Chief Executive Officer in 2023 and is guiding its transformation into a modern, technology-enabled platform built for the future of mobility. Nation Safe Drivers combines scale with operational depth. Its national service provider network, backed by proprietary systems and decades of expertise, enables the company to support motorists through critical moments, from roadside assistance to vehicle protection and emerging mobility needs. Recent investments, including the launch of its Moov™ technology platform and a complete digital rebrand anchored by GoNSD.com, reflect a clear commitment to simplifying the customer experience, improving transparency, and delivering dependable service more efficiently.

Yet even as the company evolves, its foundation remains unchanged. From the beginning, its purpose was rooted in a simple idea: motorists deserve protection and support they can trust without hesitation. That principle continues to guide its strategy today as it expands capabilities and modernizes its approach. With a renewed vision and sharpened focus, Nation Safe Drivers is positioning itself not just as a service provider, but as a long-term partner to drivers, businesses, and communities across North America, helping people move forward with confidence, no matter what the road brings.

In conversation with Rich Holland, CEO of Nation Safe Drivers

What challenges did you face during NSD’s formative years, and how did you overcome them to establish credibility and drive the company forward?

I joined Nation Safe Drivers as CEO in 2023, long after the company’s formative years, but understanding those early challenges has been essential to how I lead the business today.

In its early decades, NSD faced the same fundamental challenge common to service-driven companies: building trust at scale. Establishing credibility required consistency, reliability, and strong relationships, particularly with partners who represented the brand in the field.

Since stepping into the role, my focus has been on honoring that legacy while addressing the demands of a modern mobility landscape. That has meant strengthening operational discipline, investing in technology, and reinforcing a culture of accountability and partnership.

By building on the company’s historical strengths while modernizing how we operate, we’ve been able to sustain credibility and position the business for its next phase of growth.

Moov™ Technology has become central to NSD’s service delivery. What was the original idea behind this platform, what capabilities does it introduce, and how has it changed day-to-day operations for your team, partners, and end users?

Moov™ Technology was developed to unify and elevate how NSD operates across brands, partners, and services. The original idea was to move beyond disconnected systems and create a platform that actively improves speed, visibility, and experience.

The platform enables faster service dispatch, greater self-service for customers, and real-time insight for teams and partners. It’s designed to be flexible and brand-agnostic, allowing it to support multiple channels without added complexity.

On a daily basis, Moov™ allows teams to operate with clearer data, partners to integrate more seamlessly, and end users to experience quicker, more transparent service during moments that matter.

Many companies struggle to balance automation with genuine human support. How does NSD ensure that technological efficiency never undermines the personal touch customers still value so deeply?

We view technology as an enabler, not a replacement for human connection. Automation is most effective when it removes friction and allows people to focus on what truly requires empathy and judgment.

When a driver needs help, efficiency is important, but reassurance matters just as much. Our systems are designed to handle routine processes quickly so our teams can be present and responsive when customers need human support.

That balance allows us to scale responsibly while preserving the personal touch that builds trust and long-term loyalty.

From EV mobile charging to accident scene management and last-mile transport, your services provide an impressive range. What drives the continual expansion of NSD’s service portfolio, and how do you decide which innovation to pursue next?

The evolution of our services is driven by how mobility itself is changing. Vehicles are becoming more complex, ownership models are shifting, and customer expectations continue to rise.

We pay close attention to those trends and evaluate where we can add meaningful value. New services must solve real problems, integrate into our existing platform, and improve outcomes for customers and partners.

Innovation for us is purposeful. We don’t pursue change for its own sake; we pursue it when it strengthens the overall experience and supports long-term sustainability.

Roadside assistance can be stressful for drivers. How do your services ensure people receive help quickly and reliably?

Speed and reliability are the result of preparation and execution. We’ve invested heavily in our service network, technology, and operational processes to ensure we can respond efficiently when help is needed.

Our systems are designed to reduce dispatch times and improve communication, while our teams monitor performance to maintain consistent standards. The goal is to minimize uncertainty for the driver and get them back on the road safely.

Every improvement we make is focused on reducing stress during moments that are already challenging.

What does the future hold for your company and its customers? Are exciting things on the way?

As Nation Safe Drivers has evolved, we have reached an important realization: the way we presented ourselves externally needed to match the scale, sophistication, and responsibility of the business we’ve become. Our capabilities had expanded, our technology had advanced, and our role in the mobility ecosystem had grown, but our brand no longer told that full story.

That led to a thoughtful rebrand, including a new identity and a new digital home at GoNSD.com. The intent wasn’t to reinvent who we are, but to more clearly express our purpose and the value we bring to drivers, partners, and communities across the country. It gives us a stronger, more modern way to show up in moments that matter.

Movement sits at the center of that purpose. We support people through situations that are often unexpected and stressful, whether that means helping them get safely back on the road or protecting one of their most important investments. Those moments require more than efficiency; they require trust.

The rebrand reflects where we’re going next. It signals a company moving forward with intention, grounded in its legacy but designed for the future, and committed to ensuring that no matter how mobility evolves, no motorist is left behind.
