Sara Spencer (CEO) spoke exclusively to The Silicon Review. Below is an excerpt.

Q. Let's talk about SolonTek and how it came to the fore. So, what inspired you to start the company? Was there any prior experience that led to the establishment of the company?

As a leader and cybersecurity connoisseur, I foresaw a unique need for a digital cybersecurity management system to track, calculate, and automate compliance to cybersecurity frameworks such as NIST and ISO. As a cyber expert, I knew that using my breakthrough technology, VALKERIE™, I could revolutionize how we look at cybersecurity and compliance management today.

Q. What's the greatest challenge your company has faced? How did you overcome it?

We are a cyber smart team, and every member of SolonTek and its entities work hard. For me, each and every team member is a priority. I always want to be an amazing people leader, besides I work diligently on innovating VALKERIE™. The challenge that I face is finding the perfect blend of teammates to come alongside the existing team and me, as demand for VALKERIE™ continues to increase. I always set a high bar for employees and recruit only the best of the best.

Q. VALKERIE™ is all-inclusive cybersecurity software developed by SolonTek. How crucial is its presence in your cybersecurity software arsenal?

VALKERIE™ is crucial. It helps all stakeholders collaborate and visualize their environments’ cybersecurity posture, complete with meaningful context. An organization can see its cybersecurity gaps in real-time in one-pane-of-glass. Our breakthrough cybersecurity software is designed to help organizations monitor their cybersecurity program and security controls, prioritize cyber resources, and make informed decisions, giving organizations the ability to quantify and remediate cyber-threats up to 300 times faster with reduced overhead.

Q. 'What you can't see matters.' Would you like to elaborate on this a bit?

The "what you can't see matters" slogan is now "what you can't see matters most." When I developed VALKERIE™, the premise was that it sees the infrastructure that the average cyber engineer or CISO can't see. What VALKERIE™, our revolutionary AI technology platform, can see is not always obvious when it comes to managing compliance; we are looking at the cybersecurity spectrum holistically. And it "matters" because no business can afford to take cybersecurity lightly when cyber-attacks are on the rise.

Q. Who are your customers, and what type of industries do you serve?

We are an all-inclusive company. We help small, medium, and enterprise businesses in almost any industry that requires compliance, which is virtually all businesses. We specifically serve tech and IT, as well as health care, financial, and government sectors.

Q. How do you measure success, and over what time frame? How are these metrics determined?

At SolonTek, we measure success by deliverables and quantitative results. We are result-oriented and progress-driven. We like to measure our success in all increments, setting metric goals monthly, quarterly, and yearly.  Working with our customers, we jointly develop priorities and timelines based on desired outcomes. While I am the CEO or even a Principal Engineer, I want to achieve a superior solution that is easy and convenient to use. A solution that not only offers immediate value but continues to build value over time.

Q. Could you describe your typical management style and the type of employee that works well with you?

As mentioned earlier, I take the time to connect with all my employees on a regular basis. I am all about positive reinforcement and constructive mentoring. As a female CEO, I have a woman's touch but am never afraid to speak my mind. I will not tolerate negativity or lack of drive but rather encourage all team members to strive for both personal and corporate improvement. I am indeed a straight shooter. With that said, I am abundantly grateful to those who work hard and am not ashamed to express that gratitude.

Q. About your plans, where do you think your company will be in five years?

At the moment, we are working on our flagship product, VALKERIE™. Since growth is crucial to any thriving organization, we foresee large growth in the next five years, bringing SolonTek to be a cutting-edge leader in the compliance managing and continuous monitoring space. By that point, we will have even more fully embedded and integrated artificial intelligence and machine learning for informed decision-making, both in cybersecurity threat detection as well as threat anticipation. Sara Spencer serves as the Chief Executive Officer of SolonTek Corporation. Sara started her first tech position 20 years ago as a Junior Solaris Admin at Electronic Arts. She has recent experience as an Information Security Architect / Subject Matter Expert (SME) for global enterprise Networks, Data-Centers, Clouds, Applications, and Desktop environments.  Ms. Spencer is a Cybersecurity program, automation, development, and frameworks expert in small and enterprise businesses. She also has experience assessing and implementing Cybersecurity for Medical Devices, Biotech, and High-tech organizations and is a certified ISO 27001 Internal Auditor.  Sara has a breadth of business experience, has served on several non-profit boards, held several public service volunteer positions, as well as owned & operated a Business & Technology Service company for ten years.
