John Alexander Consulting (JAC) is a carrier and cloud-neutral telecommunications consulting and procurement firm, dedicated to delivering tailored, high-performance technology solutions. JAC has built a reputation for excellence by representing over 300 global providers and offering countless products designed to optimize telecommunications infrastructure for businesses worldwide. JAC stands at the intersection of traditional procurement and the evolving technical needs of modern enterprises. By conducting a deep dive into existing infrastructures, costs, designs,
and dependencies, JAC delivers solutions that align with their clients’ current requirements and future business drivers. This meticulous approach allows organizations to streamline their telecommunications strategy while maintaining scalability and cost efficiency. The firm’s proprietary engagement methodology sets it apart; from initial assessments to the final implementation of solutions, JAC’s systematic process ensures due diligence at every step. Clients benefit from topology optimizations, multiple carrier bids, and executive summaries that clearly outline the technology trajectory with associated costs, empowering decision-makers with transparency and clarity.

JAC provides each client with access to a proprietary lifecycle management platform to streamline the management of their telecommunications assets. This platform consolidates critical data, allowing clients to efficiently track inventory items—including costs, locations, and carriers—while simultaneously monitoring pending projects and validating expenses across all carriers. The result is a comprehensive, real-time overview of their telecom ecosystem, ensuring operational efficiency and cost-effectiveness. “The demand on IT continues to grow at an exponential rate. Working with JAC frees our time to focus on supporting our branch employees and members,” says William Schellhaas, VP of Technology Infrastructure at Crunch Fitness. Adding, “Their custom platform allows all of our departments to easily access our technical and fiscal inventory. Not to mention the time it saves us by checking our bills through automation every month—a huge time saver.”

At the core of JAC’s success is a guiding principle established by Executive Director Alexis Pomierski: “Always do the right thing for the client.” This philosophy has shaped the company’s culture. JAC’s commitment to integrity and client advocacy has fostered trust and long-term relationships with its clientele, allowing businesses to confidently navigate complex technology landscapes with a trusted partner by their side.

Through innovative solutions, deep industry expertise, and a relentless dedication to client success, John Alexander Consulting continues to redefine the standards of telecommunications consulting. Whether optimizing existing networks, implementing new technologies, or negotiating with providers, JAC remains steadfast in its mission to deliver unparalleled value and transformative results.

In conversation with Alexis Pomierski, Executive Director and Ashley Pavon, Director of Operations, of John Alexander Consulting

Alexis, JAC bridges the gap between traditional procurement and technical solution delivery. Can you elaborate on how your approach differs from conventional telecom consulting firms?

In addition to supporting the full lifecycle of procurement, we apply a FinOps approach across all aspects of the customer journey. This ensures that financial and operational goals are aligned, ultimately driving efficiency and cost optimization. Our deep industry knowledge, combined with strong technical expertise, allows us to enhance the financial performance of nearly every component of an organization’s IT infrastructure.

We achieve this by thoroughly understanding the technical needs of a business and translating them into actionable business requirements with a strong return on investment (ROI). We supplement in-house procurement teams with specific technical and telecom expertise, bridging the gap between technical requirements and financial objectives. That’s where our expertise comes in, ensuring that IT investments are both financially sound and operationally effective.

Could you explain the process JAC follows when performing a deep dive into a client’s existing infrastructure and designing an ideal topology?

We always start with a situational overview to ensure there’s a clear understanding of who we are, why we’ve been brought in, and what the engagement will look like. It’s not always just about cost savings—many times, we’re engaged for optimization, upcoming acquisitions or divestitures, or significant technology changes. While the reasons for our involvement may vary, our process remains consistent.

We follow a structured lifecycle approach that includes:

  • Audit: We conduct an itemized breakdown of current services across all providers—covering voice, network, colocation, and cloud. This allows us to capture every product in use and each associated cost.

  • Design: We collaborate with clients to align their business drivers and requirements while assessing potential risks. This ensures we deliver network and cloud topologies that best fit their needs.

  • Procure: We manage the bid process, guiding clients through vendor selection by providing detailed comparisons of offerings against their buying criteria. Our expertise in contract negotiations—especially in areas like downturn clauses and technology reallocation—sets us apart.

  • Implement: Once a solution is chosen and a migration strategy is in place, we provide free project management to oversee the transition, ensuring a seamless process alongside vendor project teams.

  • Inventory: Clients gain full visibility into their IT assets through our lifecycle management platform, which tracks all critical technical inventory details—contract dates, pricing, Circuit IDs, speeds, and more—across vendors and projects in real time.

  • Expense Validation: We automate invoice validation by capturing carrier invoice feeds and comparing them against contracted rates. Any cost variances are identified for dispute, ensuring financial accuracy.

By following this structured approach, we help organizations optimize their IT environments while maintaining financial and operational efficiency.

How does JAC maintain its neutrality while representing over 300 global providers and ensuring the best interests of the clients?

The customer always chooses the solution. We don’t push a specific vendor or technology—we take a truly agnostic approach. Our focus is on understanding the client’s unique requirements and aligning them with the best-fit solutions available in the market.

Because we work with a broad spectrum of providers, we’re able to objectively compare options based on performance, cost, scalability, and long-term value. This ensures that our recommendations are always in the client’s best interest, not influenced by any vendor preference or bias. Our role is to serve as a trusted advisor, helping our clients clearly understand the solutions and costs offered and make informed decisions that drive both operational and financial success.

Can you provide an example of a particularly challenging project JAC handled and how your team delivered a successful solution?

We’ve had a long-standing relationship with the corporate office of Crunch Fitness, helping them adapt to evolving technologies over the past decade. Last year, we began discussing best practices for their franchises—particularly the more than 400 privately owned locations that are not directly managed by the corporate entity. While corporate doesn’t mandate how franchisees handle IT, brand security and the overall member experience remain top priorities. Recognizing that technology plays a critical role in both areas, Crunch corporate partnered with us to negotiate national contracts across multiple IT disciplines. The goal was to give franchisees access to enterprise-level buying power and support, while also ensuring a consistent and secure IT environment. Since many franchise owners don’t have a deep technical bench of experts, this guidance was essential.

One of the key contracts we negotiated was with RingCentral for cloud-based communication and collaboration products and services. We structured a comprehensive strategy that included competitive pricing, and importantly, a fully staffed technical team to support franchise owners, understand their specific challenges, and provide assistance. This type of dedicated support is particularly valuable down to the smallest franchise owner unfamiliar with managing complex technology. This level of hands-on support was a major differentiator in our negotiations and was made possible by our extensive experience working with holding firms, private equity, and organizations with complex acquisition strategies.

Ultimately, each Crunch franchise maintains full autonomy, but they now benefit from discounted pricing, dynamic collaboration technology, and a dedicated support team—without the burden of navigating IT challenges alone.

“Crunch is committed to creating a consistent experience for our franchise owners and members, not only in branding but also in technology. Creating consistency without mandating IT standards is complex, but with JAC’s deep industry knowledge, they helped us negotiate national contracts—like the one with strategic vendor RingCentral—that give our franchisees access to enterprise-grade tools, pricing, and dedicated support. This approach protects the brand, strengthens the member experience, and gives our owners real advantages without sacrificing autonomy. It’s a smart, scalable solution—and exactly what we needed.” -Mike Neff, Executive Vice President, Crunch Fitness.

In the evolving landscape of telecom and cloud services, how does JAC approach the integration

of emerging technologies like SD-WAN, Express Routes, and IoT for its clients?

JAC takes a comprehensive, business-driven approach to supporting multi-cloud architectural design, procurement, and fulfillment. We invest the time to fully understand the challenge at hand—whether it’s the application itself, security requirements, disaster recovery strategies, or business continuity needs. Our team includes highly skilled security and cloud engineering specialists who not only understand the technical aspects of the application but also the end-user experience. This allows us to guide our clients toward what we call the best “landing zone” for their applications—an environment that aligns with both economic and technological advantages while meeting all business requirements.

By balancing security, performance, and cost-efficiency, we ensure our clients have a cloud strategy that is both scalable and resilient, helping them optimize their IT investments while maintaining operational excellence.

What role does education and training play in JAC’s client engagement strategy, especially concerning emerging technologies?

Continuous learning is a core part of JAC culture. All our staffs are required to complete at least two trainings per week with different vendors. This mandate ensures that we maintain the widest possible understanding of the technologies and challenges our clients face.

Interestingly, we often find ourselves learning from our clients as well. They may come to us with a request for a specific technology solution, and our role is to not just fulfill that request, but to deeply understand the issue at hand. From there, we identify and engage the most appropriate partners to bid on the solution, ensuring that what we deliver is both strategic and effective.

As a deep procurement partner, we must grasp every nuance of our clients’ needs. No two organizations are alike, and customers frequently present unique challenges that require creative, tailored solutions. That’s why staying up to date on emerging technologies and maintaining a broad knowledge base is absolutely critical. It allows us to offer not just solutions—but the right solutions.

Ashley, can you tell us about your innovative platform you’ve just launched?

Last year we launched our lifecycle management platform, and we truly believe it’s going to be a game-changer for the industry. While there are companies that specialize in procurement, vendor management, inventory tracking, and telecom expense management, there really isn’t a single solution that brings all of these elements together under one centralized platform. That’s exactly what we’ve built—an all-in-one system designed to streamline the entire process.

This platform isn’t about replacing or supplementing internal staff; rather, it’s a tool to support everyone involved in managing IT and telecom services. Whether it’s the audit phase, new service procurement, project management for implementation, inventory management, or expense validation, the platform provides every stakeholder with real-time access to the data they need.

In many projects, there may be 20 or more people accessing different pieces of information at any given time. Our platform allows them to log in and pull the exact data they need, when they need it, making the entire process more efficient, transparent, and collaborative. Centralizing and automating these critical functions helps our clients improve visibility, reduce errors, and make smarter IT decisions.

What does the future hold for your company and its customers? Are exciting things on the way?

Since launching our customer-facing platform in 2024, we’ve seen an increase in demand to expand the types of products we support—especially transactional products like mobile phones and software licensing. Many of our customers now want us to manage these assets for them because of our ability to centralize and track critical tech information, costs, and inventory.

We’re excited to see how this expanded support enhances the overall customer journey. By helping organizations streamline asset management, we’re not only saving them money but also increasing their level of support and reducing the burden on already overworked IT teams. Our goal is to continue evolving the platform to meet the real-world needs of our clients, ensuring they have the tools and insights needed to optimize their IT operations efficiently.
