The Silicon Review
Over the years, cloud computing has evolved into something really big. Back then, people used to run applications or programs from software downloaded on a physical computer or server in their building, but today with cloud computing, people can access to the same kinds of applications through the internet.
From updating Facebook status to checking the bank balance, everything is a cloud. Cloud computing solves challenges faced by small businesses. In short, the cloud has become the new normal and soon every business will be using at least one cloud service.
To be a part of this revolutionary technology and to make private clouds easy, for any enterprise at any scale, in 2013, Platform9 was founded. As private cloud company, Platform9’s award-winning private cloud solution is simple, open, and enterprise ready. It’s based on OpenStack and runs on any hardware and any platform – VMware, KVM, and Kubernetes to provide global visibility and control, self-service provisioning, API-driven automation and many other benefits of a true private cloud.
Platform9's SaaS-Managed Hybrid Cloud turns your existing infrastructure into a cloud, instantly. We help enterprises drive digital transformation by enabling them to manage VMs, Containers and Serverless Functions on ANY infrastructure — on-premises, in public clouds, or at the edge - with a self-service, simple and unified experience.
Hybrid Clouds That Just Work
Leading Cloud-Native OSS Frameworks: Manage your cloud using the industry’s leading open-source cloud-native frameworks — OpenStack for VMs, or Kubernetes for containers, or both. Aggregate resource capacity, provide self-service consumption for developers, automate efficiently, manage using policy and multi-tenancy controls. Upstream OpenStack and Kubernetes releases are packaged as a “pure-play” solution, which means you are always compatible with upstream framework APIs, and never locked into a proprietary system.
Fully Integrated, SaaS-managed: Increase time-to-value and reduce total cost of ownership for these cloud-native frameworks by consuming a fully integrated, SaaS managed experience. The frameworks are fully integrated for common virtualization and container platforms, most popular computer, storage, and network technologies, enterprise SSO infrastructure, and distributed environments. In addition, these frameworks are deployed, monitored, supported and upgraded as SaaS, meaning your IT and DevOps teams can focus on solving core business problems without babysitting the management stack.
Run Anywhere: Any Hardware, Any Platform, Any Cloud: Decouple your hybrid cloud from the choice of hardware, OS platforms, or public cloud providers. Platform9 integrates seamlessly with any computer, storage and network infrastructure, using leading virtualization technologies such as KVM (Linux), Docker (Linux) or VMware vSphere. In addition, you are free to use your choice of public cloud providers, such as Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud Platform, Microsoft Azure, or other. Optimize and manage your hybrid cloud across any of these choices, and retain the flexibility to reprioritize in the future.
Hybrid Cloud Solutions
Similar to Amazon Web Services (AWS), Platform9 is as easy as signing up and getting right to work. The big difference is that AWS relies on hardware and infrastructure wholly owned and controlled by Amazon. By contrast, Platform9’s hybrid cloud architecture uses servers, storage, and virtualization environments that you own and control, wherever they may happen to be. Our OpenStack-based orchestration layer delivers full private cloud automation, enabling self-service and many other use cases within minutes at any scale.
Platform9 Managed OpenStack: How Our Private Cloud Architecture Works
Platform9 leverages your on-premises server infrastructure, pooling resources in a single data center or across multiple regions. IT sets policies and quotas and creates libraries of images and templates to enable controlled consumption of resources. Platform9’s friendly user interface makes it easy for developers and other end users to help themselves to the resources they need within the limits set by IT.
Open Source is at the Heart of What Platform9 Do
Our Platform: Open Source, Delivered as SaaS
Open source is great, but it can prove challenging to manage and support in a standardized way, at scale, for mission-critical applications.
To that end, our solution combines the power of SaaS with best of breed open source frameworks that are delivered as-a-service, in a single, unified platform. So you never have to worry about upgrades, patches, backup, scaling, or all those other management tasks.
Our hybrid cloud platform was designed from the ground up to leverage the industry’s de-facto open source standards – Kubernetes for Containers, OpenStack for VMs, and Fission for Serverless applications. This allows us to deliver the economics and interoperability of open source, without the vendor lock-in and maintenance/DIY overhead.
Chief’s Take on the Company’s Open Source Technology:
“At Platform9, we are committed to open source technology as a strategic core architecture that’s at the heart of everything we do.
We fundamentally believe that open source is where innovation happens in modern software development and IT operations. Open source is the future, and we’re here to build on it, work with the community to enhance it, and make it easier to consume by providing it as a service — so that we’re all able to deliver applications and IT services in a more streamlined, cost-effective and scalable way. Together.”
