The telecommunication industry is a massive global one with many companies providing long distance carrier services as well as a number of value-added services. With the explosion in smartphone usage ushered in by the late founder of Apple, Steve Jobs, the demand for mobile internet and application development skyrocketed. In light of lower calling rates and affordable mobile internet, combined with the popularity of social media and utilitarian applications, telecommunication service providers are racing to capture the maximum share of the carrier market.

iBasis is a wholesale carrier of international long distance telephone calls with prepaid calling services. Headquartered in Lexington, Massachusetts, it was later acquired Royal KPN N.V, the Dutch telephone, and Telecommunications Company.

It is a leading international voice carrier and provider of value-added services for mobile operators. The company offers a comprehensive portfolio of voice termination and data services, including messaging, signaling and roaming, for many of the world’s largest fixed and mobile operators, as well as voice-over-broadband (OTT) service providers.

iBasis has been a pioneer in the use of IP for real-time communications since its inception in 1996 as one of the first international wholesale Voice over IP carriers. The company rapidly grew to be one of the largest carriers of international voice traffic in the world and in 2009 became a subsidiary of Royal KPN N.V., the national carrier of the Netherlands. It continues to be an innovator, determined to make what’s next work globally, from the highest quality international Voice service (including HD) to Enterprise SMS to LTE Roaming and VoLTE. The company enjoys the challenges of a dynamic and competitive market and the opportunities to collaborate with customers to solve their most urgent connectivity challenges and capitalize on exciting growth opportunities.

Here’s a look at some of the services provided by iBasis

VoLTE

Voice over LTE (VoLTE) delivers increased network efficiency, trusted mobile operator voice services, and high-quality video calling. Mobile operators around the world are now launching national Voice over LTE service to their subscribers. To achieve the full benefits promised by VoLTE, they must also offer international VoLTE calling.

Operators can choose different models for servicing VoLTE subscribers originating or receiving calls while roaming in another VoLTE network. iBasis supports both of the GSMA-defined models: Local Breakout (LBO) and S8 Home Routed (S8HR).

LBO is designed to replicate today's roaming architecture, functionality and commercial model, while S8HR’s goal is to simplify VoLTE roaming implementation and reduce time-to-market for global VoLTE roaming. S8HR has drawbacks when it comes to full telecommunications features. For example, it offers no support for Lawful Intercept, emergency calls, and visited network data retention, as well as other features. It also has shortcomings related to quality, including a negative impact on handover time in case of eSRVCC and delays impact on regional calls. iBasis’ S8HR solution, provided as part of iBasis’ existing S8/GRX service, eliminates S8HR drawbacks. The drawbacks can be addressed individually by iBasis or collectively addressed by utilizing the iBasis IPX Hub Breakout (HBO) solution. With iBasis enhanced S8HR, VoLTE operators can take advantage of the accelerated roaming implementation offered by S8HR, without sacrificing telecommunications functionality and high voice quality.

iBasis offers some of the most affordable and reliable data services.

It offers advanced IP technology that ensures internationally consistent high-speed mobile data experiences for end-users. Moreover, secure and scalable interconnection with all mobile operators connected to the GRX/S8 data network with 99.999% availability and worldwide reach and the comprehensive GRX solution with clear evolution toward full-services IPX and LTE. Fast time to market and simplified implementation of VoLTE roaming that conforms to GSMA S8 Home Routed (S8HR) roaming model results in Flexible business and implementation models.

The GRX Service from iBasis prepares you for a data-centric future. Its industry-leading IPX technology connects your IP network to the GRX/S8 cloud to maximize your mobile data profits and leverage several paths to a multi-service IPX network. The GSMA-compliant iBasis GRX network has the maximum worldwide reach and provides secure and reliable transport as well as predictable operational expenses. The company has assembled a comprehensive GRX/S8 solution, ready for multi-service IPX and LTE, supported by flexibility in both business models and implementation.

In addition to all the telecommunication facilities, iBasis also provides analysis tools for a thorough assessment of all network users. iBasis’ InVision enables you to enhance your subscriber’s roaming experience and increase your competitive power by turning near real-time data into actionable information. InVision is a powerful monitoring, alarming and reporting tool that enables a higher quality of service than ever before by proactively identifying and solving issues (often before the end-user even notices a problem) and providing you full visibility and control over your LTE roaming traffic. This advanced tool provides visibility into key service quality parameters and alarms for core services such as signaling and data – all in near real time.
