Interview Excerpt: Peter Willemse, CEO e-Con Solutions

Why was the company set up? How did you select the vertical and decide to be a part of the global platform?

In the early days e-Con was still part of a bigger Independent Software Vendor (ISV) organization called To Increase, an ISV focusing on the Dynamics platform. Since Microsoft Dynamics was lacking a configurator / CPQ solution, the strategic decision was made to bring such a solution to the Dynamics platform. After a successful management buy out in 2011 e-Con quickly grew to the organization it is today. 

What were the grounds on which you have expanded your company and its offerings over the years?

e-Con’s unique integration capabilities into the Dynamics platform, combined with its tremendous flexibility and attractive pricing has proven to be a combination that’s hard to beat. The win rate over the past years has been far above average compared to peers in the industry. This has resulted in an almost perfect retention rate, showcasing the customer success stories achieved over the past 18 years.

We strive to be the most dedicated CPQ vendor for companies using Microsoft Dynamics.  

What are the biggest assets to your organization? What would they be and why?

e-Con’s core values are summed up as: unique customer experience strategy, pride in our work, integrity, collaborative teams, fulfilling environment.

Every executive, team, and individual adopts these values as their perspective when applying efforts to every project and in every aspect of developing customer relationships. Operating at this level of understanding and perspective keeps focus on our larger goals.

We continuously improve our capabilities to facilitate customer needs. Most important development is to continue our dedicated development efforts to the Microsoft Dynamics portfolio, and make sure that each part of the Dynamics 365 solution stack is connected to our solution so customers can reap the benefits for all parts of their organization.

How well do your employees know their role in contributing to the company’s success?

Teams learn to focus on what they can create together from different backgrounds, skill sets and personalities.

Every team member at e-Con has a crucial role to carry out. Based on talents and competences of our members, we try to create a role that fits their profile best. When people excel at something they are good at, they will have fun at their work, which will make them productive.

When the international expansion started, our employees started to work remotely more and more. We have ensured that on a quarterly basis the teams come together to talk about tactical and strategic topics. Varying from gathering input on organizational development to discussing functional improvements combined with informal activities, these meetings are producing better outputs.

Two-way communication is most effective, and employees need to feel they have an outlet for sharing their observations and ideas. How does this idea come to life at e-Con?

e-Con’s office culture is innovative and energetic, and everyone periodically rolls up their sleeves to help co-workers when needed, regardless of their titles. We are looking for employees who share a similar sense of purpose as it is imperative to surround yourself with great teams. Having teams that you can rely on allows you to maximize your time, whether you are in the office or somewhere else.

About - Marijn van Poelje, Founder & General Manager

Marijn van Poelje, general manager at e-Con Solutions, has been working with CPQ software, transforming development and trends into solutions for customers. He dedicated himself to bringing e-Con organization to the point where it is today. Mr. Poelje is a graduate of HU University of Applied Sciences Utrecht (Hogeschool Utrecht) in the Netherlands with a degree in Industrial Automation. 

About the CEO

Peter Willemse, CEO at e-Con Solutions, has been involved in the Dynamics business since 2000 in various sales and general management roles within the Dynamics partner channel. Besides overseeing the e-Con operations in the USA, Mr. Willemse also holds the position of ICT Commissioner at the University of Nyenrode in the Netherlands. He is a graduate of the same varsity with a degree in Foundation of Management.
