Meet the Head Honcho

James Joyce, P.E., President and CEO: James uses his managerial and operational expertise to lead more than 50 full-time associates. Jim oversees the effective implementation of short- and long-term goals through marketing strategy, cost control and organizational leadership.

Jim assumed the presidency in 2004. Through his leadership, H.R. Gray has successfully grown their offices in Columbus and Akron, Ohio; Lexington, Kentucky, as well as Austin, Texas. Further, the number of employees has more than doubled, which has enabled the firm to pursue regional work as well as grow in profitability and name recognition.

Prior to joining H.R. Gray, he served as the executive head of the Department of Public Utilities for the City of Columbus. In this capacity, he directed the activities of the Airport, Electricity, Sewerage and Drainage and Water Divisions; served as the advisor to the Mayor on public utility matters at the Cabinet level; oversaw all engineering functions of the Department as well as all Capital Improvements and Operation/Maintenance functions. Jim was also the primary point of contact with U.S. EPA and Ohio EPA, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.
