The company was established in 2004 and is headquartered in San Francisco with a development center in Belarus, Minsk with 100 people on board.

Interview Excerpt: Maksim Osipau, Founder & Alexey Grakov, Co-owner

Why was the company set up? How did you select the vertical and decide to be a part of the global platform?

I liked to play games and wanted to develop my own game – that led me to start my own business. After the game was launched I decided to switch to business projects, whereas we still develop games to our customers.

Our first product – the real-time strategy game called ‘Time of Silence’ took me almost four years to finish it. During it, I hired three developers and 3D-modeler to help me. The game was launched in 2007.

‘Time of Silence’ was launched for PC as we didn’t have enough budget to launch it online, and the publisher didn’t invest much in the promotion. Initially, the game wasn’t very successful but with the time it started to pay back.

What kind of responses have you received from your customers over the years? How have they motivated you to shape your offerings/grow the company?

Somebody from Intel said: “if you have a mission impossible project, bring it to Belarus.” I agree, totally agree. We (at VironIT) have good software engineers who like to solve sophisticated tasks. Besides, we are motivated by new technologies and opportunities the market brings to us – which being the reason we invested a lot of time in training our people blockchain technology.

If you have to list four factors that have been/are the biggest asset to your organization, what would they be and why? 

Our people are the biggest asset to our organization. Building the right team to run the day-to-day projects is the key. Having them understand our mission and goals and delivering the best service is what we strive for each day.

Systems are very important as well; the right systems will keep things moving and efficient. Processes is a strong third, as documented processes will keep everyone working in sync, on schedule and in the right direction. The advantages of having solid processes in place allow us to evaluate problems that may arise with scope creep, in which case we can audit that process and determine if it’s an issue with the process.

Our Motivation Programs is another important asset. Our employees including new hires learn about these programs, thereby making them ready to counter the hiccups they face on daily basis.

All of these factors build a company culture and brand. Both cannot happen without great people.

Two-way communication is most effective, and employees need to feel they have an outlet for sharing their observations and ideas. How does this idea come to life at VironIT?

Our office culture is innovative and energetic, and everyone periodically rolls up their sleeves to help co-workers when needed, regardless of their titles. We are looking for employees who share a similar sense of purpose as it is imperative to surround yourself with great teams. Having teams that you can rely on allows you to maximize your time, your efforts, and your creative output.

Do you have any new products ready to be/getting ready to be rolled out into the market?

This year among many projects for our clients we are releasing:

- VR/AR mobile app for real estate agents enabling to sell all types of real estate assets

- Drugstore and insurance aggregator

- Real-time translator with support of 20+ languages, based on NLP algorithms

- VR Application to study human’s anatomy

- Cryptocurrency bank where users are enabled to buy/sell digital assets securely and without fuss   

Where do you see your company a couple of years from now?

We expect to grow up to 200 people in 2018-2019 and will continue pushing growth forward in the years to come.

The Brains Behind The Operation: A Brief Background

Maksim Osipau, Founder: Maksim Osipau is a brilliant programmer who secured first places in several international Computer Science Olympiads and now generally manages processes of company. He started his company by developing an RTS game, launched in 2007 on PC.

Alexey Grakov, Co-owner: Alexey has over 10 years of experience in IT. He has worked for Viaden (acquired by Playtech) and IBM projects (as an employee at IBA Group). Currently, Alexey is responsible for evolving of innovative technologies, such as blockchain related projects using Ethereum and IBM Hyperledger.
