Data Systems Analysts, Inc. (DSA) was founded in 1963 by a team of engineers working for RCA Corporation that developed the software for one of the largest wide area data communications networks in the U.S. The group subsequently formed a company and teamed with Ford Aerospace to win a major contract for the development of a similar network for Western Europe and Asia. Progressing to developing turnkey custom software systems for data communications applications for the Federal Government and large corporations, the company also developed a suite of communications applications for the civil aviation industry that enhanced flight safety. DSA is headquartered in Trevose, Pennsylvania.
The ace in DoD’s pack
Since its inception, DSA has played an important role in supporting the U.S. Warfighter. In one of its first major programs in the early 1960s, DSA partnered with the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) to provide a secure and reliable messaging system for America’s fighting forces and allies. DSA engineers developed the world’s first packet switch in the 1960s and helped pioneer the use of electronic messages for the DoD. These innovative solutions are critical in supporting U.S. fighting forces to command, control, and communicate on battlefields from Vietnam to the most recent conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Meet the key executive
Frances R. Pierce, President, CEO and Chairman: Fran Pierce is President, CEO and Chairman of the Board for Data Systems Analysts, headquartered in Trevose, PA. She joined DSA in 1971. She was appointed Executive Vice President and General Manager of the New Jersey Operation in 1985, Executive Vice President and General Manager of the Washington, D.C. Operation in 1986, and President and Chief Executive Officer in 1991. She has served on the DSA Board of Directors since 1980 and became Chairman of the Board in 1991.
SmartCEO Magazine honored Fran with a Brava! Women in Business Achievement Award, recognizing her as one of Greater Philadelphia’s most influential female leaders. Philadelphia SmartCEO100 selected Fran as a leader in the Best-Run Companies program in 2012, and she was a 2013 Philadelphia SmartCEO Circle of Excellence award winner.
In 2013, Fran received Strengthening the Mid-Atlantic Region for Tomorrow’s (SMART) Women’s S&T Leadership award. She was presented the 2014 Iris Newman Award by the Alliance of Women Entrepreneurs (AWE) for her trailblazing entrepreneurship. She was also awarded the 2014 CEO of the Year Private Company Award by the New Jersey Tech Council (NJTC) at their Leadership Summit.
In 2015, Fran was ranked #30 in Inc 5000’s Impact 50 which recognizes women entrepreneurs.
