The One and Only Place for All Your Data, All Your Users: Snowflake

thesiliconreview-bob-muglia-ceo-snowflake-18

Conventional data warehouses weren’t designed to keep up with the exploding demand for data-driven insight. They are complex, costly and inflexible systems that have become obstacles rather than solutions to accessing and analyzing all your data.

Alternative, “Big Data” platforms such as Hadoop are merely toolkits, not complete solutions that require massive resources to build and maintain. They’re even more complex, require specialized skills, and simply weren’t designed for data warehousing.

Snowflake’s mission is to enable every organization to be data-driven with instant elasticity, secure data sharing, and per-second pricing, across multiple clouds. Snowflake combines the power of data warehousing, the flexibility of big data platforms and the elasticity of the cloud at a fraction of the cost of traditional solutions.

The Only Data Warehouse Built for the Cloud

Zero management

Snowflake eliminates the administration and management demands of traditional data warehouses and big data platforms. Snowflake is a true data warehouse as a service running in the cloud – there’s no infrastructure to manage or knobs to turn. Snowflake automatically handles infrastructure, optimization, availability, data protection and more so that you can focus on using your data.

Diverse data

Snowflake understands all your business data, whether from traditional sources or newer machine-generated sources, without requiring cumbersome transformations and tradeoffs. Snowflake’s patented technology natively loads and optimizes both structured and semi-structured data like JSON, Avro, or XML and makes it available via SQL without sacrificing performance or flexibility.

Compelling performance

Snowflake processes report and analytics at lightning speed because its columnar database engine uses advanced optimizations to efficiently crunch data. Combine that with its ability to scale up and down on the fly and you get exactly the performance you need, exactly when you need it.

Any scale of data, workloads, and users

Snowflake’s patented multi-cluster shared data architecture separates storage and compute, making it possible to scale up and down on-the-fly, without downtime or disruption. Automatically scale to support any scale of data, workload, and concurrent users and applications without requiring data movement, data marts, or data copies.

Broad ecosystem

You can rapidly integrate Snowflake with custom and packaged tools and applications. Snowflake’s native and standards-based connectors including ODBC, JDBC, JavaScript, Python, Spark, R, and Node.js unlock the power of cloud data warehousing for developers and tools using a variety of tools, languages, and frameworks.

Pay only for what you use

Usage-based pricing for computing and storage means that you only pay for the amount of data you store and the amount of processing performed. No more big upfront costs, over-provisioned systems, or idle clusters consuming money.

Seamlessly share your database with anyone

Snowflake was built to take advantage of the cloud from the start. Its innovative Data Warehouse as a Service enables you to share access to a specified and secure set of data with whoever you’d like without copying or deconstructing data.

See Snowflake in Action

There’s no better way to see how Snowflake can help you get more from your data than by seeing the product in action. Watch this short video to see how real-life organizations are using Snowflake to combine their disparate data and enable their team.

Why Snowflake

Breathtaking performance

Snowflake is built for speed for even the most intense workloads. Its patented architecture separates compute from storage so you can scale compute up and down, and on the fly, without delay or disruption. You get the performance you need exactly when you need it.

Snowflake is also a fully columnar database with vectorized execution, making it capable of crunching demanding analytic workloads. Snowflake’s adaptive optimization makes sure that queries automatically get the best performance possible – no indexes, distribution keys, sort keys, or tuning parameters to manage.

Unlimited concurrency

Snowflake can support unlimited concurrency because its unique multi-cluster, shared data architecture allows multiple compute clusters to operate simultaneously on the same data without performance contention.

Snowflake can even scale automatically to handle varying concurrency demands with its multi-cluster virtual warehouse feature, transparently adding compute resources during peak load and scaling down when load subsides.

Uncompromising simplicity

You can concentrate on solving business problems rather than managing your database because Snowflake automates and eliminates the manual knobs and tuning required by alternative solutions.

Snowflake is a zero-management data warehouse as a service. There’s no software or hardware to deploy and configure, and Snowflake automatically scales to support any amount of data and concurrency with consistently great performance.

Testimonies

“Snowflake has rid Chime of the restriction of a rigid data modeling world, allowing for a much faster pace of business and far greater and far greater efficiencies for our small technology team.”

  • Ethan Erchinger, Director of Operations at Chime

“Snowflake’s unique architecture enables all of our teams to work with data in one system, without impacting performance and without DBA experience.”

  • Josh McDonald, Director of Analytics Engineering, KIXEYE
