Track high-value assets with unprecedented accuracy across multiple industries: Omni-ID

‘Building efficiencies and ensuring quality with real time process visibility and dynamic instructions.’

Omni-ID is a vendor of passive UHF Radio-frequency identification (RFID) tags. Founded in 2007 [1] as Omni-ID, Ltd., its products are a range of RFID tags designed to operate in industrial environments, including on metal and near liquids.

Omni-ID began as a research and development team formed in the 1990s within QinetiQ, an international defense and security technology company. The team was charged with exploring and challenging the boundaries of RFID. The result was a groundbreaking technological improvement — passive UHF RFID tags that provide near perfect accuracy in harsh environments, including in the presence of metals and liquids. This represented a fundamental shift in the way the RFID tags were viewed and broadly expanded the practical use applications. Omni-ID was launched as a stand-alone company.

One of the problems the research unit studied was the difficulty reading radio frequency identification (RFID) tags placed close to metals and liquids. Eventually, the company successfully solved the challenge of high-value asset identification and tracking across industries.

In 2007, Omni-ID was granted an UK patent for an “electromagnetic radiation decoupler”. With a working RFID tag that overcame those difficulties, it was decided to commercialize the design by forming a new company, Omni-ID, Ltd., which was launched in March 2007.

To support its global base of customers and partners, Omni-ID’s corporate team is located in Rochester, New York, with its center for research and technology development in Farnham, United Kingdom. The company has regional sales offices throughout the USA, as well as Germany, China and India. Omni-ID’s manufacturing centers of excellence are located in Rochester, New York and Qingdao, China.

In addition, Omni-ID works with a network of trusted partners around the globe to identify requirements and create complete, customized solutions to meet the needs of its broad base of Fortune 500 customers.

Solutions for Real World Applications
Known for consistently setting industry standards, Omni-ID is the original inventor and patent-holder of the on-metal passive RFID tag. In 2012, the company launched ProVIEW — the world’s first visual tagging system — to replace paper-driven processes in manufacturing, providing not only the ability to track assets; but dynamic, readable instructions right on the tag, completely changing the auto-identification industry landscape.

Today, Omni-ID has dramatically expanded to become not only the leading developer and global supplier of high performance, highly durable, passive & active RFID tags used to improve workflow, asset tracking and management, but to building and architecting complete asset management solutions for Fortune 500 companies around the globe.

From improving inventory and supply chain management, to compliance and real time visual instructions – Omni-ID’s versatile family of hardware and software products enables complete end-to-end asset tracking and management solutions for industry, IT and manufacturing.

Whether it’s Omni-ID’s Enterprise Asset Management Solutions featuring its Asset Tracking software platform or Solutions for Manufacturing featuring its ProVIEW system, the company’s experienced team of implementation experts can architect the right solution for you – including the software, hardware, middleware and RFID physics you require.

A True IoT Solution for Manufacturing – ProVIEW
Omni-ID’s ProVIEW provides a solution to replace the 40-year-old process of manually placing paper labels on millions of containers, carts, and sub-assemblies flowing through factories every day: with simple and cost-effective wireless displays.

It is the first IoT-based system to offer a true paperless workflow for manufacturing. ProVIEW combines the immediate reliability and visual instruction inherent with paper labels along with automated tracking, and capability for two-way human interaction – all inherent in Industrial IoT technologies (and with a 12–18 month ROI).

What makes ProVIEW different is simple — traditional paper labeling provides simple visual instruction, but with minimal tracking and automation. RFID provides the tracking but fails to provide the visual instruction or two-way communication/verification necessary for workers. Only ProVIEW combines these elements to form a powerful new paradigm — instruct + track + dynamic control — enabling smart manufacturing for an IoT world.

The happy customer
“Unlike traditional electronic tagging systems, Omni-ID’s ProVIEW Visual Tags give us the ability to not only track our materials, but control the process flows right on the factory floor in real time. The process visibility and control has created a number of efficiencies for us — not to mention the savings from the paper use.”– Robert Hyden, Daimler Detroit’s IT Manager.

Meet the Master
George E. Daddis, Jr, President and CEO: George is an experienced CEO & entrepreneur, having founded two successful technology companies. He has extensive experience in building companies, raising capital, and establishing markets for digital and IT technologies.

After receiving his B.S., M.S., and PhD. Degrees from Cornell University in Computer Engineering and Applied Mathematics, George began his engineering and management career at Eastman Kodak and subsequently Xerox, building engineering teams for various imaging product lines. These teams focused on quick time-to-market deliveries and “best in class” performance and cost digital product platforms.

In 1998, George founded his first company, InSciTek Microsystems Inc. that provided digital hardware and software design services to Fortune 500 companies such as Sharp Electronics, GE, Kodak, and many other technology companies in the US. In 2003, Allworx Corp was founded from the core of InSciTek and quickly established itself as a national provider of small business VoIP telephone systems – a comprehensive technology firm including R&D, manufacturing, marketing/sales, and customer support functions.

George aggressively grew this VC-backed business to over 75,000 end users with a sales channel of over 900+ dealers throughout North America. In 2007, George successfully sold Allworx Corp to PAETEC, a major national telephone Services Company headquartered in Rochester, NY.

Prior to joining Omni-ID in 2011, George served as CEO at WorldGate Communications, a publicly-held video telephony firm in Philadelphia.

“We’ve designed and implemented solutions for some of the most challenging asset management applications around the globe.”
