Upp Technology: Transforming the Way Healthcare Providers are Funded

Upp Technology’s disruptive SMART Health Claims billing solutions are redefining how healthcare providers are funded.

Healthcare providers in every community across the United States are struggling to keep their doors open. Researchers estimate that since the 2008 recession, more than $40 billion has been removed from public healthcare. Steep funding cuts, combined with the sky rocketing cost of providing healthcare, have forced many providers to reduce services, layoff staff, and even close their doors.

Local healthcare providers play an incredibly important role in our communities, standing on the frontlines of every major healthcare issue that faces our nation today. Their mission is to protect the health and well-being of every community, yet their financial well-being is under siege.

Upp Technology recognized the plight of healthcare providers and embarked on a journey to completely transform the healthcare industry.

Disrupting the Healthcare Funding Model
Healthcare providers are reliant on grants and public health funding to run their organizations. Over time, this antiquated, insecure funding model created an environment that threatened our entire healthcare landscape, particularly following the 2008 economic recession.

Researchers from City University of New York (CUNY) School of Public Health found that from 1960 to 2002, public health spending rose from 1.36% to 3.18% but fell to 2.65% in 2014. It is projected to fall to 2.40% in 2023. Since 2008, more than 52,000 public health positions have been eliminated, and more than 40% of public health budgets have been slashed, according to a June 2105 National Association of County and City Heathcare Organizations (NACCHO) survey. Also, a quarter of local public health agencies expect their budget to be further reduced next year.

Upp Technology sought to disrupt this cycle of financing by teaching providers how to build their own funding. With its SMART Health Claims solutions, Upp is now adding millions of dollars back into the public healthcare system where there was no money before. In 2016, Upp is projecting that they will generate $25 million to add back into public healthcare.

Launched just three years ago, Upp Technology’s SMART Health Claimsrevenue cycle management solutions were developed for public and private health organizations to maximize their revenue through billing programs. From its rich history of delivering innovative technology solutions, Upp Technology developed a state-of-the-art cloud solution suite, designed specifically for the needs of public health departments, community health centers and specialty health providers.

For organizations that have traditionally relied on federal and state funding, these solutions have entirely changed the narrative; self-funding is not only possible, but it is easy and affordable. With sophisticated financial training, healthcare providers now had the power to generate the revenue necessary to manage their own organizations.

Changing the Game: The SMART Health Suite
The newest and fastest-growing division of Upp’s expansive technology portfolio, SMART Health Claims, is a state-of-the-art cloud solution for compressive billing management. This suite of billing solutions and includes real-time eligibility verification, claims submission, payment processing, reimbursement reconciliation and outcome evaluation and analysis. The system is designed to be easy-to-use, easy to get started and affordable for providers of all sizes.

Upp Technology’s billing experts have extensive experience with the insurance, healthcare, and public health industries. By identifying areas in the entire revenue cycle that can be enhanced, healthcare clinics can take advantage of improved cash collections and public/private insurance reimbursements.

Upp approaches the development of billing programs with a deep understanding of the culture of healthcare organizations and the management of their technology projects.
